RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
Opposing
Proposition 16
The New Two - Thirds Requirement for Local Public Electricity Providers Act
WHEREAS, Pacific Gas & Electric calls Proposition 16 the "Taxpayers Right to Vote Act;" and
WHEREAS, PG &E has spent $6.5 million to promote Proposition 16 and put it on the June 8, 2010
statewide ballot; and
WHEREAS, the League of California Cities, at its February 2010 meeting, voted to oppose
Proposition 16; and
WHEREAS, according to the League, the ballot measure is an infringement on local control as cities
and their municipal utilities work to provide the best service possible for their constituents; and
WHEREAS, Prop. 16 would require two- thirds voter approval before local governments could
provide electricity service to new customers or establish a community choice electricity program
using public funds or bonds; and
WHEREAS, specifically, the ballot measure would require cities and counties to get two- thirds voter
approval to form or join a different electric utility provider.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City.of Rohnert Park that it is
in opposition to Proposition 16.
