The City of Rohnert Park City Council, Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation
Commission attended a joint special meeting this date commencing at 10:00 am with
Mayor Vidak - Martinez ,presiding.
SPECIAL MEETING
Call to Order:
Councilmembers Present: Mayor Vidak- Martinez; Councilmember Stafford
Planning Commissioners Present: Commissioner Ohanotu
Parks and Recreation Commissioners Present: Chairperson Black
Staff Present: Assistant City Manager Schwarz, Director of Community
Development Bendorff, Director of Public Works /City Engineer Jenkins,
Community Development Assistant Azevedo
CONSULTANT PRESENTATION:
Corridor Concept Plans — To solicit input and encourage discussion regarding the
proposed Corridor Concept Plans (Commerce Boulevard, Southwest
Boulevard, and State Farm Drive) which will recommend various
streetscape and urban design enhancements to the corridors
Jason Jones, Bob Klekner, and Jonathan Schuppert, RBF Consulting, were
recognized and gave an overview of the Commerce Boulevard, Southwest
Boulevard and State Farm Drive Corridor- Study Community Immersion concept.
They explained that process would involve a three -day public participation
process that will engage business and property owners, community members, and
organizations in a visioning process for the three corridors.
Members of the audience were encouraged to participate in a round table
discussion and present ideas and thoughts. for various streetscapes and urban
design enhancements to the corridors. The following are some key points raised
and suggestions offered:
• Need for a warmer environment
• More pedestrian friendly
• Improve visual appeal and expand sidewalks to businesses
• Permanent frames for non - profit signs
• More trees
• Incorporation of other surface treatments (cobbles, brick, etc.)
• Bike racks, benches, street furniture
• Study pedestrian patterns for proposed SMART station
• Landmarks
• Selecting priorities for treatments (different needs for different areas)
• Financing methods
• Evaluate Southwest Boulevard — may be too wide
• Balance of through movement and pedestrian activity
• Incentives for Safeway and Raleys centers to work on long term plan
• Consider pedestrian overpass on State Farm/Commerce /RPX
• Public Art where possible (inclusion of natural elements)
• Gateway and entry treatments (what to do with existing freeway sign, have
a gateway sign that has local organizations, school teams, etc.)
• Lighting styles and fixtures; low cut -off lighting — timeless look
