A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
Recognizing and Honoring
ROBERT "BOB" BLANCHARD
AND CELEBRATING HIS CAREER OF DEDICATED PUBLIC SERV ICE
WHEREAS, effective June 170, Bob Blanchard will step down as Mayor of the City of Santa Rosa
after many years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, Bob's interest in politics spans several decades beginning as a Riverside County
Deputy Sheriff, then as a political science instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College, service as a
Santa Rosa Planning Commissioner from 1994 -2002, and a member of the City Council for six
years; and
WHEREAS, currently, he also serves on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission where he
casts his eagle eyes over matters pertaining to Sonoma County; and
WHEREAS, Bob is described by others as fair, honorable, optimistic, enthusiastic, a model
councilmember, an ambassador for consensus among the councilmembers, solution oriented, a
cheerleader for the city, passionate and by many more adjectives, each describing rare leadership
abilities and a giant of a man; and
WHEREAS, Bob was known for his fiscal responsibility, sound land -use planning, and visionary
mixed -use development. He put his heart, soul, and 120% of his energy into making Santa Rosa a
better place; and
WHEREAS, his caliber of service included a demanding schedule of political meetings, civic
events, and nationwide travel often placing the welfare of his beloved Santa Rosa above his own;
and
WHEREAS, recently Bob stated that the hallmark of his life was the "honor and privilege" to serve
on the Santa Rosa City Council and as Mayor.
Now, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park that we
salute Bob Blanchard and we consider it our `honor and privilege' to have worked alongside of this
"grand" man and will miss his presence.
