2006/09/26 City Council Resolution (3)RESOLUTION NO. 2006 : 37 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK Proclaiming Tuesday, October 17, 2006 as Conflict Resolution Day WHEREAS, conflict is an unavoidable part of human relationships that can lead to disharmony in families, neighborhoods, workplaces, and societies; and WHEREAS, our society has become increasingly dependent upon external means of settling disputes, including litigation and increased use of law enforcement officers; and WHEREAS, Mediation is a respectful, effective, confidential, and reasonably - priced method of working through disagreements and is proven to deflect conflicts from entering the court system; and WHEREAS, Mediation empowers people to reach informed, mutually acceptable, and realistic agreements; and WHEREAS, Sonoma County residents can benefit from many mediation services such as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) professionals, a non - profit community -based mediation agency that provides affordable community and family mediations, victim /offender youth diversion mediations, and basic community mediation training; and WHEREAS, the professional associations of dispute resolution practitioners have designated the third Tuesday in October as the specific day for celebrating and promoting the peaceful and creative resolution of dispute through providing public information and education. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park does hereby proclaim October 17, 2006 as Conflict Resolution Day in Rohnert Park and expresses appreciation to those who are working diligently to assist fellow citizens and local agencies in addressing conflict resolution needs. DULY AND REGULARLY ADOPTED this 26`h day of September, 2006.
