1972/07/12 City Council MinutesROHNERT PARK CITY COUNCIL MINUTES July 12, 1972 The Council of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in adjourned regular session commencing at 7:45 p.m. in the City Offices, 435 Southwest Bouelvard, Rohnert Park, with Mayor Roberts presiding. Mayor Roberts called the meeting of the adjourned regular session to order at approximately 7:45 p.m. Roll Call Present: (5) Councilmen Beary, Flores, Hopkins, Smith and Roberts Absent: (0) None Other elected officials from the City of Cotati, the Cotati School District, the Petaluma High School District, Planning CoTmissions, and interested parties are indicated on the attached sheet. Schools Mayor Roberts reviewed the purpose of the meeting to discuss with the city and school officials present the apparent problem in-providing school facilities or financing to keep up with the rapid growth that the area is experiencing. The differences in the problems between the Cotati School .District and the Petaluma High School District were explain& Most of the officials participated in a rather lengthy dis- cussion that was held concerning how best to handle the situation. Some criticism was offered for calling this meeting and not allowing the School District-Coordinating Committee to work with the developers and propose a solu- tion to the problem. During the course of the discussion, Councilman Smith submitted a proposed resolution which he suggested that the School District consider for adoption and which would request a restriction on development. The discussion also touched on the need to have the State Legislature take proper action to correct the poor situation that school district financing is in. 'Pending bills before the legislature were discussed. Comments were received from Mr. Harold Heers, Mr. Art Condiotti, Mr. Jimmie Rogers representing developers who indicated that they intended to meet with the School District City Corrdinating Committee and hcpefully present a solu- tion to the schools problem. The Councils were requested by School Board members to support changes in Sacramento in the method of funding education. After a wide range of topics were discussed in connection with schools situation, those officials present agreed that the matter should be left in the hands of the School Dis- trict-City Coordinating Committee until it reports back with a recommendation to the individual bodies.
