1973/07/23 City Council MinutesROHNERT PARK -CITY COUNCIL MINUTES July :23, 1973 The Council of the City of Rohner* Park ,met this date 'iri -: adjourned regular session commencing at 70® p.m. in the City Offices, 6750 ;Commerce Blvd., Rohnert Park, with Mayor Flores presiding. The purpose of the meeting' was to have a joint meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission. Call to Order Mayor Flores called the adjourned regular 'session to order at approximately 7:00 p.m. Council Present Present: Councilmen Beary, Smith, and`Plores Absent: Councilmen Hopkins and Roberts Commissioners Present:,- Commissioners Fiori, Hofmann, Kreischer, Mettert, Present and.Hamann Late: Commissioners bishop and Driggs- Staff.Present: City Manager,Callinan, Parks and Recreation Director Pekkain Other Present: Mr. George Geister, Mr. Rich Leslie, Mr. Dave hones of the Clarion, and Mrs. xay Driggs Boys Baseball Program Commissioner Driggs Arrives Discussion was held concerning the complaint received by the Council at its last meeting concerning the selection of the All Stars for the Boys Baseball Program. Mr. Ron Fiori, President of Boys Baseball, indicated that he didn't want to discuss the matter because he didn't think the Council was the proper forum. He indicated that the Board of Directors of the Boys Baseball program would give anyone an open hearing to discuss their complaints. Discussion followed. Commissioner Driggs arrived during the discussion,,,the time being approximately 7:22 p.m. Mr. George Geister was recognized and explained how the All Stars were chosen. Further discussion followed. Upon motion by Councilman Beary, seconded by Councilman Flores, and approved by the following voice vote, the Council decided to refer any further comments on the Boys Baseball program received by the Council to the Boys Baseball program Board of Directors: AYES: (2) Councilmen Beary and Flores NOES: (1) Councilman Smith ABSENT: (2) Councilmen Hopkins and Roberts Page 2. July 23, 1 ^73 Other Parks and The Council and Commission then held a lengthy discussion Recreation Matters concerning the park development and recreation program activities. ' Commissioner Bishop ° Commissioner Bishop arrived during:the discussion, the Arrives time-being approximately 7:35 p.m. During the general discussion held,between the Council and Commission such things as park development, use of Federal Revenue Sharing funds, lights on the tennis courts,, Council - commission relations, restrooms for Benecia Park, the Hinebaugh Creek Drainage project, Copeland Creek recreation potential, providing programs for.;teenagers, motorcycles and teenagers, work to date of the Open Space Committee`, the roll of Commissioners, development of Colegio Vista and Ladybug Parks, establishing priorities for park develop• - ment,`soliciting citizen participation in decisions, newspaper coverage, regional park, and attendance at meetings, were all topics touched on. It was the consensus of those present that the Council and •'Commission ought to get together every three or four months for joint session in order to develop the best possible working relationship.
