1976/03/09 City Council MinutesROHNERT PARK CITY COUNCIL MINUTES March 9, 1976 The Council of the City of Rohnert Park met this date. in adjourned regular session commencing at 7:00 p.m. in the City Offices, 6750 Commerce Boulevard, Rohnert Park, with Mayor Hopkins presiding. Call to Order Mayor Hopkins called the meeting of the adjourned regular session to order at approximately 7:00 p.m. Roll Call Present: (5) Councilmen.Beary, Eck, Flores, Smith and Hopkins Absent: (0) None Others present: City Manager Callinan, Department Heads and guests Resoluton No. 76 -52 A RESOLUTION DECLARING RESULT OF GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF ROHNE,RT PARK ON MARCH 2, 1976 City Manager Callinan reviewed the resolution. Upon motion of Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Beary, and unanimously approved, the reading of Resolution No. 76 -52 was waived and said resolution was adopted. Resolution No. 76 -53 A RESOLUTION DECLARING RESULT OF SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD MARCH 2,, 1976 IN THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK, CALIFORNIA City Manager Callinan reviewed the resolution. Upon motion of Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Beary, and unanimously approved, the reading of Resolution No. 76 -53 was waived and said resolution was adopted. Oath of OfficeDeputy City Clerk Faus administered the Oath of Office to Councilmen -elect Louis Beary, Warren Hopkins and Arthur Roberts. Election of Mayor Upon motion of Councilman Flores, seconded by Councilman Pro - Tempore Roberts, and unanimously approved, Councilman Beary was selected by the City Council to serve as Mayor Pro- Tempore (Vice - Mayor). Election of Mayor At this point in the meeting; Mr. Hopkins turned the gavel over to Vice -Mayor Beary. Upon motion of Councilman Hopkins, seconded by Councilman Beary, and unanimously approved, Councilman Flores was select- ed by the City Council to serve as Mayor. Incoming Mayor Flores assumed the chairing of the meeting and on behalf of the City Council and citizens of Rohnert Park, presented outgoing Councilman Smith with a silver tray in appreciation of his 14 years service since the city's incorporation in 1962. APPROVED: Mayor Flores Page. 2 March 9, 1976 Former Councilman Smith spoke briefly concerning his service as City Councilman; expressed appreciation for encouragement and-advice of various individuals, praised the City Manager and: -city staff; reminisced over some of Rohnert Park's past history and commented briefly re. a commitment to serve the citizens of Rohnert Park. Mayor Flores briefly reviewed responsiblities of the Mayor and, on behalf of the city, presented outgoing Mayor Hopkins with a silver tray in appreciation of his service as Mayor. Councilman Hopkins offered words of appreciation for former Councilman Smith's service on the City Council and reflected on some of the community projects that had been instigated and/or completed during the past year. Introductions Mayor Flores introduced former Councilman Jack Buchanan and welcomed former Councilman Arthur N. Roberts back to the.Ci,ty..Council. Matters from Councilman Roberts requested the Council's permission to Councilmen leave the country for a long-planned vacation, informing that he would return on March 27th. Upon motion of Councilman Beary, seconded by Councilman Eck, and approved by a majority voice vote, the Council granted Councilman Roberts permission to leave the country for vaca- tion. Councilman Eck initiated discussion relative to the rotation of Mayor and Vice-Mayor. Adjournment There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:23 to coffee and cake.
