Cotati-R.P Unified School District Joint Meeting
March 31, 1992
The Council of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in a joint
session with members of the Cotati - Rohnert Park Unified School
District Board at Confucius Restaurant located at 40 Raley's
Towne Center, Rohnert Park, CA, with Mayor Spiro presiding for
the City and President Terri Palladino -King for the School
District.
Call to Mayor Spiro /President Palladino King called the joint session to
Order order at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Present Councilmembers Eck, Hollingsworth, Hopkins, Reilly and
Mayor Spiro
Board members Brown, Chevalier, Kirchmann, Weissenburger, and
President Terri Palladino -King
City Staff City Manager Netter, Director of Public Works /City Engineer
Present Brust and Planning Director Skanchy.
School Dist. Superintendent Walt Buster, Asst. to Superintendent Adam Wolf,
Staff Present and Student Representative Rhonda Posey
Others Present Representative from Cotati /R.P. Clarion and R.P. citizen Jake
Mackenzie.
There was a brief welcome from Mayor Spiro and Board President
Terri Palladino -King.
Mayor Spiro indicated that the purpose of the meeting was to
discuss matters of mutual interest and concern and to facilitate
the 'best possible communication between the Cotati /R.P. Unified
School District Board and the City Council members.
A wide range of discussion was held on a variety of topics
including redevelopment fees, future growth of Rohnert Park,
Cannon Manor access to the M Section in Rohnert Park, and school
projects update. There was the consensus that an access should
be allowed for those children who live in Cannon Manor to access
Monte Vista School.
Other discussion continued regarding the
boundaries where Supt. Walt Buster informed
that the Board was meeting with the Bellevue
Districts to discuss the Cotati / Rohnert
boundaries to accommodate future growth to the
followed.

The City and the School District agreed to the reinstitution of
a school /district coordinating committee and also agreed to have
staff discuss the possibilities of a joint project for a joint
City Hall /School District Offices on the City site off the R.P.
Expressway. The School District agreed to have this item put on
the agenda and would get back to the City so that staff could
meet and see if a program could be structured.

Other projects that were discussed included landscaping on the
south property line of the high school of which Adam Wolf
informed the City Council that this project should be completed
by the end of May.
Benecia Park landscaping - Director /City Engineer Ron Brust and
Adam Wolf updated the Council that this project would be split
with the City doing a portion and the School District doing its
portion with the joint coordination of this project which should
be completed sometime this summer.
The Rancho Cotate High School split lunch /open campus was
briefly discussed along with the Santa Rosa system for
irrigation of treated wastewater on all the parks, landscaped
strips and other major landscaped areas including School
District properties throughout the City. City Manager Netter
informed the School District Board Members that letters had been
sent to State Legislators for the purpose of attempting to
secure funds for this irrigation project. The City Council
members requested that the School Board write similar letters to
the legislators in support of funding for this very worthwhile
project. City Manager Netter said he would send Supt. Walt
Buster copies of the letters that had been sent by the Mayor.
Misc. Councilman Reilly indicated that the spelling bee held on April
Matters 8, 1992 was a tremendous success and he suggested a proclamation
be sent to the winning student over the Mayor's signature. The
City Council, by consensus agreed. In addition, Councilman
Reilly commended on the San Quentin Squires Program and
solicited a support letter from the Cotati /R.P. Unified School
District. Board Members agreed.
Adjournment The joint session was adjourned by Mayor Spiro /President Terri
Palladino -King at approximately 9:00 p.m.
