A RESOLUTION OF THE ROHNERT PARK CITY COUNCIL,
SUPPORTING ALLOWING THE ELECTORATE TO VOTE
ON THE EXTENSION OF THE ZONE IA BENEFIT ASSESSMENT
WHEREAS, Zone 1A is one of the nine geographic zones within Sonoma
County created for the purpose of assessing each parcel owner for the construction of
flood control projects; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rohnert Park is located in Zone 1 A along with Cotati,
Santa Rosa, Sebastopol and Windsor; and
. WHEREAS, in 1986 the voters in Zone 1A voted to forma Zone IA benefit
assessment to increase funding for flood control projects; and
WHEREAS, in 1996 the voters in Zone I voted to extend the benefit
assessment for 10 years; and
WHEREAS, the benefit assessment provides valuable resources to complete
flood control projects to the benefit of Zone I property owners and residents.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Rohnert Park that the City Supports the placement of an extension of the voter approved
1986 benefit assessment be placed on the November 2006 ballot by the Sonoma County
Water Agency for consideration by Zone 1 A voters; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if the Sonoma County Water Agency does
not place the extension of the 1986 benefit assessment on the November 2006 ballot that
the City supports the Sonoma County Water Agency's submittal to the voters of new
benefit assessment that includes funding for both flood control projects and water quality
programs in Zone IA.
