Resolution No. 2004 -101 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK PROCLAIMING May 9 -14, 2004 as "National Police Week" and MAY 15, 2004 PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, our Nation witnessed America's peace officers as they selflessly aided those in need; and WHEREAS, as the World Trade Center burned, dedicated officers rushed into the severely damaged buildings to rescue the injured and hundreds died in the act of trying to save others; and WHEREAS, 230 law enforcement officers gave their lives in the line of duty last year; and WHEREAS, the names of over 15,000 law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty has been placed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. so that their valor will never be forgotten; and WHEREAS, effective law enforcement is crucial to maintaining our quality of life and we must ensure that our police have the financial, technical, and civil support necessary to carry out their responsibilities; and WHEREAS, the President of the United States designated May 15th of each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day and directed that the flag be flown at half -staff on that day and that Americans display the American flag from their homes on that day. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park that it supports the President of the United States' request and does hereby honor May 15, 2004 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day DULY AND #EGULARLY ADOPTED this 27th day of April, 2004.
