2004/06/08 City Council Resolution (16)A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
Supporting
AMERICAN LEADERS ENERGY INDEPENDENCE DAY DECLARATION, JULY 2004
WHEREAS, it is now necessary for all people to face the threat of catastrophic global
change and we declare our commitment to act responsibly for the welfare of future
ions and our Mother earth; and
WHEREAS, we believe that global warming poses significant threats to communities
across the world in the forms of heat waves, drought, shrinking water supplies and snow pack,
catastrophic fires, floods, storms, coastal erosion, new diseases, and loss of traditional plant and
animal life; and
WHEREAS, we believe that human activity is the primary cause of global warming and
that only human action can reverse it, that our excessive reliance on fossil fuels threatens all
inhabitants and it is America's duty to institute a new energy economy, laying its foundation on
the efficient and profitable use of clean energy; and
WHEREAS, we encourage the federal government to maintain, enhance, and implement
domestic environmental justice policies and programs that work to reduce global warming, and
support renewable energy development on Native lands where abundant wind and solar resources
can meet the energy needs both of local tribes and larger communities.
WHEREAS, we urge the federal government to use its extensive transmission systems to
support the delivery of new renewable energy from rural America to meet urban renewable
electricity demand.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rohnert
Park that it does hereby support July, 2004 as Energy Independence Day Campaign, and
DUI YAND REGULARLYADOPTED this 86 day of June, 2004.
