2004/09/14 City Council Resolution (10)RESOLUTION NO_ 2004 -225 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK Supporting The Department of Homeland Security Declaration of SEPTEMBER as NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH WHEREAS, it has been three years since 9 -11 when tragedy struck the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and the citizen soldiers of Flight 93 WHEREAS, unlike previous wars, the War on Terror is not fought on foreign soil alone. WHEREAS, terrorists in the 21" century represent a daunting enemy. They represent no one cause, no flag, no people - yet they have access to a steady supply of technologies, funds, and willing recruits. They seek to use chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. . WHREAS, After 9-11, America called on the best and the brightest minds, sought out the most advanced technologies, and began to build security throughout the country, examining entreat infiustructure, our transportation systems, our borders, our ports and our skies overhead. WHEREAS, although we are more secure today than we ever have been, preparedness must be a priority in every city, every neighborhood, and every home in America. WHEREAS, we must promote the basic steps that all Americans may take to prepare for emergencies: bottled water (I gallon per person per day); non - perishable food; flashlight with extra batteries; battery powered radio-, items unique to your fanuly i.e. diapers, formula, medications; as well as garbage bags, can opener, tools, clothing, bedding, first aid kit; masks or cotton T -shirt to help protect your mouth, nose, eyes, cuts on skin. Remember emergency numbers and important papers. Everyone in your family should know where to meet and who to call should you get separated. WHEREAS, National Disasters such as the hurricanes that recently swept Florida-, earthquakes, fires,, etc. also require preparedness. Follow instructions of emergency officials for evacuation. Make plans for pets, they are not allowed in most shelters. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Roluiert Park that we support Emergency Preparedness and call upon all of our citizens to heighten their awareness of danger and promote preparedness in their own families.
