RESOLUTION NO. 2002- 65 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK Recognizing and Honoring May 12 -18, 2002 as NATIONAL POLICE WEEK and Wednesday, May 151h as PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY WHEREAS, The President of the United States and Congress have designated May 15th as Peace Officers' Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15th' falls as National Police Week; and WHEREAS, the members of the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety play an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of the residents of Rohnert Park; and WHEREAS, it is important that our citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their law enforcement agency, and that members of our law enforcement agency recognize their duty to safeguard life and property, and to protect the innocent and weak against violence, disorder, deception, and oppression. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park recognizes and proclaims the week of May 12 — 18, as National Police Week and encourages appropriate ceremonies and observances in which our citizens may join in commemorating law enforcement officers, past and present, who have rendered dedicated service to their communities and, in so doing, have preserved the rights and security of all citizens. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that May 15, 2002 be set aside as Peace Officers' Memorial Day in honor of those law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community or have become disabled in the performance of duty, and let us also recognize and pay respect to the survivors of our fallen heroes.
