A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF TWO ELECTIONS TO BE
HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2002 FOR
(a) A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE ELECTION OF TWO OFFICERS
FOR FOUR (4) YEAR TERMS (two long terms) AND
(b) A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE ELECTION OF ONE OFFICER
FOR A TWO (2) YEAR TERM (one short term)
WHEREAS, a vacancy in the office of City Council was created by the resignation of
Linda Spiro on March 31, 2002; and
WHEREAS, the term of office in which the vacancy occurs ends in November of 2004;
and
WHEREAS, on April 9, 2002, Ordinance No. 681 was adopted by the Council of the
City of Rohnert Park as an urgency ordinance providing that a council vacancy shall be filled
initially by appointment to serve until November 2002 General Municipal Election (calling for
applications and establishing deadlines); and /or whether or not the vacancy is filled for the interim
to serve until November 2002, then the council vacancy shall be filled by election at the
November 2002 General Municipal Election; and
WHEREAS, under the provisions of the laws relating to general law cities in the State of
California, a General Municipal Election shall be held in the City of Rohnert Park on Tuesday,
November 5, 2002, for the purpose of electing two (2) members to the City Council for the term
of four (4) years, with said terms to expire in November of the year 2006.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Rohnert Park
as follows:
SECTION 1. That pursuant to the requirements of the laws of the State of California
relating to general law cities, two elections are called and ordered to be held in the City of
Rohnert Park, California, on Tuesday, November 5, 2002, for (a) a General Municipal Election
for the election of two City Council Members for four year terms in which the vacancies are
created by the expiration of terms of Armando F. Flores and James J. Reilly, Jr. which terms end
in December of 2002, and (b) a Special Municipal Election for the purpose of the election of a
City Council Member for the term of office in which the vacancy was created by the resignation of
Linda Spiro which term ends in December of 2004.
SECTION 2. That pursuant to Elections Code § 10403, the City Council of the City of
Rohnert Park requests that the Board of Supervisors consolidate the Special Municipal Election
to fill this vacancy with the General Municipal Election to be conducted on November 5, 2002
and any other election held on the same day within the City of Rohnert Park.

SECTION 3. That the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park requests that the
Sonoma County Board of Supervisors permit the County Elections Official and the Elections
Department of the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters to prepare all required notices and
election materials for the holding of the general municipal election and the special municipal
election, give all such required notices and send to the City's registered voters all required
election materials, conduct both the general and special municipal elections and canvass the vote
received, and take all steps necessary and required for the holding of these elections within the
City of Rohnert Park.
SECTION 4. That the City of Rohnert Park recognizes that additional costs will be
incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for
such costs.
SECTION 5. That the City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this
resolution to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, the County Clerk and the Elections
Department of the County of Sonoma.
SECTION 6. That notice of the time and place of holding these elections within the City
of Rohnert Park for both the General Municipal Election for two officers with four year terms to
expire in December of 2006 and the Special Municipal Election for one officer with a two year
term to expire in December of 2004, is hereby authorized and approved and the City Clerk is
authorized, instructed and directed to give further or additional notice of the election in the time,
form and manner as required by law.
