RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE
NORTHERN & COASTAL CALIFORNIA
WATER BOND INITIATIVE COALITION
WHEREAS, the California electorate has approved three statewide bond initiatives over the past
two years that provided $6.67 billion for water and parks related programs in California, and an
additional bond initiative is now under preparation for the November 2002 election that would
provide an additional $3.44 billion if approved by the voters; and
WHEREAS, development of a regional coalition to organize and promote local salmon
restoration projects for funding has proven to be effective in obtaining federal appropriations
totaling $41 million for California and enabling completion of the Healdsburg War Memorial Dam
Fish Ladder and approving grant funding for the Mumford Dam Fish Passage and Riparian
Enhancement Project, the Crocker Creek Dam Removal Project and other projects important for
recovery of salmonid species in Sonoma County; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Rohnert Park City Council that the beneficial reuse of recycled
water for urban and agricultural irrigation is the highest priority use; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has identified the following projects to be consistent with its
policy, provide important environmental benefits and warrant state funding as may be provided by
future bond initiates:
• Reclaimed Water Main Extension, Golf Course Drive and Snyder Lane
• Reclaimed Water Retrofit, Honeybee and Golis Parks.
• Security System for Water Infrastructure.
• Miscellaneous urban recycled water projects that replace the use of potable water.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rohnert park
approves the following actions:
1. Supports legislation to allocate funding from future Water Bond Initiatives for local
projects in Rohnert Park,
2. Supports legislation to allocate funding from future Water Bond Initiatives for local
projects in Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake, Napa, Marin and other Northern and Coastal
California Counties.
3. Authorizes the City Manager, or his designee, along with a Rohnert Park City
Councilmember appointed by the Mayor, to work with the North Bay Watershed Association and
other public agencies to develop the Northern and Coastal California Water Bond Initiative
Coalition to advocate and secure grant funds for drinking water, wastewater, fisheries, wetlands,
water reuse, non -point source and flood control projects that will benefit Windsor, Sonoma
County and other counties in Northern and Coastal California.
