A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
AUTHORIZING A POSITION CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY RANGE FOR THE
POSITION OF MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
WHEREAS, the City Manager has accomplished a review of the current
Performing Arts Center operation; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager as the Personnel Officer for the City recommends
consolidating the position of Director of the Performing Arts Center and the position of
Business Operations Manager into one position; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Rohnert Park City Council that
said class specification and salary listed below is approved and the positions of
Director of Performing Arts Center, Range 94 M, and Business Operations Manager,
Range 75 X, become obsolete.

MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
DEFINITION
Plans, organizes, directs, supervises and coordinates the operations and activities of the Performing
Arts Center. Responsible for supervision and oversight of business operations of the Performing
Arts Center including preparation of annual budget; management of the box office and automated
ticket sales system; management of subscription, group and individual ticket sales; management of
front -of -house services and sales; management of accounts receivable and payable; negotiation and
execution of facility rentals and performance of other duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Managing Director of the Performing Arts Center has the overall operational responsibility for
the Performing Arts Center including marketing, production, programming and facilities
management. In addition to the operational and budget responsibilities, the incumbent is actively
involved in fundraising, public relations and artistic supervision. Incumbents work a varied schedule
based on the scheduling of Center activities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED
Administrative direction is provided by the Assistant City Manager. Supervisory responsibility
includes the direct supervision of the full time, part time, contracted and volunteer staff at the
Performing Arts Center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Locates, attracts, schedules and oversees the production of performances at the center; supervises
marketing activities and preparation of publicity regarding the Center's activities; negotiates
production contracts and contracts for other users of the Center and insures contract compliance;
develops, recommends and implements long -range planning activities for the Center; supervises the
maintenance of facilities; prepares budget recommendations and controls expenditures; manages the
Center's fundraising and development efforts; provides supervision for the artistic direction of the
Center; develops and maintains positive relations with community groups; coordinates Center
activities with other City departments; prepares reports and studies; manages and supervises support
staff; oversees the financial activities and reporting; maintains master events calendar; supervises
marketing and group sales activities; manages subscription sales activities; serves as administrator
for the networked ticketing computer system and serves as the theater company manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience/Education
Sufficient experience and education to successfully perform the duties of the Managing Director of
the Performing Arts Center. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess at
least six years' experience working in a performing arts center or a related facility in a supervisory
or management capacity, which included accounting, sales, marketing, information systems and
management experience.

Knowledge /Ability /Skill
Knowledge of principles and practices of administration of a performing arts center; laws, codes, and
regulations pertaining to the operation of a performing arts center; techniques of contract negotiation
and administration; principles of supervision and training; technical aspects of production direction,
design and facilities set -up; principles of marketing and publicity; expenditure control techniques;
techniques for long -range facilities and program planning; techniques for making effective public
presentations; principles of public and non - profit agency budgeting; techniques and methods for
effective fundraising; safety principles for large facilities; labor contract language and its application
to work schedules and activities. Ability to oversee the daily activities of a performing arts center;
artistically evaluate and select productions appropriate for the center; supervise staff involved in
facilities maintenance and stage productions who are working varying hours and schedules; develop
and implement marketing and fund raising strategies; negotiate and administer a variety of contracts;
prepare clear, concise and grammatically correct correspondence and reports; make effective oral
presentations and develop and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of community
and non - profit organizations.
Working Conditions
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending,
squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping,
repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing correspondence and reports using a
computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near, far and color vision in evaluating
production stages, reading written materials and using a computer, and hearing is required when
evaluating performances or communicating with others. The need to lift, drag and push materials
weighing up to 25 pounds also is required.
LICENSE /CERTIFICATE
Possession of a Class C California driver's license by date of appointment.
