1971/04/05 City Council ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 71 -40
RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING A YES VOTE ON
COUNTY REFERENDUM CONCERNING ABAG
WHEREAS, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has placed
on the ballot a measure to determine the feelings of the people of
Sonoma County concerning membership in the Association of Bay Area
Governments, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park
recognizes the need for regional associations or governments to solve
many area wide problems, and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the fine efforts made to
date by the Association of Bay Area Governments in attempting to
solve many of the problems of the San Francisco Bay Area and the
counties closely oriented thereto; and
WHEREAS, with the recent one -man, one -vote edicts from the
courts of the land, Sonoma County's active participation and voice in
the Association of Bay Area Governments could drastically change and
become very limited, and
WHEREAS, the vast majority of the area in Sonoma County is
not orientated to the San Francisco Bay Area, and
WHEREAS, Sonoma County's problems and interests are somewhat
diverse from those of our sister bay area counties, and
WHEREAS, however, the City Council feels that it would be more
logical for the County of Sonoma to be in a regional association or
government composed of northern counties more closely identified with
the interests of our county,
NOW, THEREFORE, for these and many other reasons, the Rohnert
Park City Council does recommend to the voters of Sonoma County a
"Yes" vote on the April 20th ballot measure to give the Sonoma County
Board of Supervisors an indication that it is the feeling of our
citizens to withdraw from the Association of Bay Area Governments
just as soon as another acceptable regional association or government
more in tune with the interests and concerns of Sonoma County and
other northern counties is formed.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
sent to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, Senator Randolph
Collier, Assemblyman William Bagley, City Councils in Sonoma County,
local newspapers, and other interested parties.
DULY ADOPTED this 5th day of April, 1971.
