1970/05/18 City Council ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 70 -64 RESOLUTION URGING THE RETENTION OF THE PETALUMA OFFICE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park is aware that a recommendation has been made that the Petaluma office of the Department of Human Resources be closed, effective September 1, 1970; and, WHEREAS, this Council is firmly convinced that the closing of this particular office would be a serious disservice to the Southern Sonoma County area citizens in that such closing will cause an unnecessary hardship to the unemployed and the employers in the area; and WHEREAS, unemployment is now approaching the 9 percent figure in Sonoma County, indicating that there is a great need for every and all service possible to assist in job placement; and WHEREAS, Organized Labor is also very much concerned with the recommended closing in that it feels the closing would be harmful and a hardship to its members; and WHEREAS, it is the opinion of this Council that the recommended closing would create more economic harm than benefit to the citizens of this area and the taxpayers of this State. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park strongly urges that the recommended closing be denied because of the very great adverse economic impact to Southern Sonoma County. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Reagan; Mr. Gilbert Sheffield, Director of the Department of Human Resources Development; Assemblyman Bagley; Senator Collier, Congressman Clausen, Senator Murphy; Senator Cranston; and the City of Petaluma.
