1972/10/30 City Council Resolution (3)RESOLUTION NO. 72 -145
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF ROHNERT PARK CONCERNING A PROPOSED
ROHNERT PARK STADIUM
WHEREAS, an effort has been initiated by citizens in
the community to provide a stadium facility for the Rohnert Park
area, and
WHEREAS, the Council of Rohnert Park recognizes a need
for a stadium facility which would be available for community
wide use, and
WHEREAS, such a facility could be used by Sonoma State
College, Rancho Cotate High School, Rohnert Park Junior High
School, Pop Warner football teams, soccer teams, and for a wide
variety of social and cultural events, and
WHEREAS, the effort appears to have community wide
support, and
WHEREAS, there exists a stadium facility at Sonoma
State College which could be used for community wide activities
and which would make sense rather than for the community to
duplicate the facility, and
WHEREAS, the matter has been discussed with some
Sonoma State College officials, and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to officially assume
its proper leadership role in providing the stadium facility to
the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, HE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
City of Rohnert Park that it does endorse the Stadium Fund Drive
and pledges its support and efforts to make the stadium become
a reality.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council requests an
official indication from Sonoma State College and the State of
California as to whether or not the existing stadium at Sonoma
State College is available for consideration, and, if so, under
what terms, recognizing that any terms would have to be mutually
satisfactory and must of necessity recognize and accommodate the
Sonoma State College needs.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an official indication of
support or comment is solicited from the Petaluma High School
District Board of Education.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, assuming that the necessary
details can be worked out with the college and state officials,
and that the use of the college stadium meets with acceptance
by the community, then the City Council does pledge its time and
energy to improving said stadium to the necessary standards and
to implement a program of control over the stadium satisfactory
to the college, city, and other involved parties.
DULY ADOPTED this 30th day of October, 1972.
