RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
SUPPORTING THE CONSTRUCTION OF NUCLEAR GENERATING
FACILITIES IN MENDOCINO COUNTY
BY PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY
WHEREAS, Pacific Gas and Electric Company has an application
pending before the California Public Utilities Commission and the
U. S. Atomic Energy Commission for authorization to construct
two nuclear - fueled electric generating units in Mendocino County, and
WHEREAS, the Environmental Impact Study submitted. with the
application has shown minimum effect on the environment, and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Rohnert Park believes the
expertise and integrity of the regulatory agencies involved will
provide the public with complete protection, and
WHEREAS, public hearings required by law will be requested to
be held locally by both regulatory agencies thus allowing public
involvement in the decision making process, and
WHEREAS, the demand for additional sources of electrical energy
has been demonstrated dramatically over the past several years, and
WHEREAS, the continued growth of California with assurance of
a clean environment can best be accomplished by the use of nuclear
power, and
WHEREAS, the use of nuclear power will provide the consumers
of California with a reliable and economical source of electrical
energy,
NOW, `THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Rohnert Park that it does support the construction of the nuclear
generating facilities in Mendocino County; subject to approval. by
the California Public Utilities Commission, the U. S. Atomic Energy
Commission, the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors, and the
Pt. Arena City Council, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk be directed to
transmit certified copies of this resolution to Senator Cranston,
Senator Tunney, Congressman Clausen, Senator Collier, Assemblyman
Belotti, U. S. Atomic Energy Commission, California Public Utilities
Commission, Board of Supervisors of Mendocino County and the City
Council of Pt. Arena.
