A RESOLUTION APPROVING A JOB
DESCRIPTION AND SETTING CERTAIN PAY
RATE AND RANGE
VOLUNTEER POLICE SERVICE AIDE
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Rohnert Park that the
job description for the following position which is attached to this
resolution and by reference thereto incorporated herein and the pay rate
for same as listed below is hereby approved:

VOLUNTEER POLICE SERVICE AIDE
DEFINITION
April 1990
Under general supervision, to provide assistance with a variety of tasks
related to the operation of the Department of Public Safety; performs para-
professional law enforcement assignments and community services both in the field
and in the records /communications division; and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Perform a wide variety of duties such as assisting in the records and
communications division of Public Safety; answer incoming telephone calls,
providing information and routing callers to appropriate personnel; takes
fingerprints; may assist in the field taking reports, giving information or
assisting with any field activity of the department; may assist with crowd
control and traffic direction; performs various types of station and field work
deemed practical and non - endangering by superiors; may assist with the handling
and processing of property and evidence; may assist with crime prevention
meetings and related projects; may assist in processing lost and found property;
assist in special duties and projects; operates office equipment; may operate a
computer terminal and radio equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent or may presently be enrolled in
high school and maintain a minimum of "C" average. While there is no age limit
for adults, no student may be eligible until reaching the age of 17.
Possession of an appropriate California driver's license issued by the State
Department of Motor Vehicles.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Vehicle safety.
Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Modern office practices and procedures.
Proper telephone techniques and procedures.
Basic knowledge of public safety functions.

Ability to:
Think clearly and logically.
Speak and write clearly.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Learn to operate radio and office equipment.
Learn the functions, policies, and procedures of the Public Safety Dept.
Read and understand department policies, instructions, laws, and
regulations.
Maintain courteous and tactful, but firm relationships with the public.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
