1990/10/09 City Council Resolution (10)RESOLUTION NO. 90-23'O WHEREAS, the natural beauty of Sonoma County significantly enhances the quality of our lives; and WHEREAS, preservation of this natural beauty - the forested mountains, extensive pastures, the many vineyards and orchards, the open rolling hills of our spectacular coastline and our lakes, rivers and streams, is of paramount concern to all of us, now and in the future; and WHEREAS, estimated population growth of the San Francisco Bay area will undoubtedly increase the numbers of people -V\ho wish to reside in Sonoma County as a v4io1e and the City of Rohnert Park in particular, making retention of our farmlands, scenic views and open space ever mre difficult; and WHEREAS, Nbasure A of Sonoma County's Noven-ber General Election ballot will establish an organization Ahich will allow landoiAners to protect their land for agricultural purposes and/or for its natural beauty, and WHEREAS, the sane 14-,asure A gives priority to establish greenbelts between the cities of our County; and WliEREAS, Measure A provides for the ability of our cities to participate with the County in establishing open space areas within city boundaries but does not allow for direct city representation on the authority; and WHEREAS, without direct city representation, the cities will not have a vote in the policy and decision making process establishing the priorities of the open space district; and WHEREAS, f4easure C on that same ballot will ensure that there will be sufficient funds to compensate WILLING sellers who voluntarily choose to ensure retention of their land's natural beauty and relinquish their development rights; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park supports the protection of open space especially between cities in the County and urges its residents to support and vote for Nbasure C in this November's Sonoma County General Election. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council (does not support Measure A due to the cities not having direct representation on the authority. CITY OF PARK Mayo. .L'a ECK -LY!
