1991/02/26 City Council Resolution (2)RESOLUTION NO. 91 - 46 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF ROHNER.T PARK TO INSTITUTE A VOLUNTARY WATER CONSERVATION PROGRAM WHEREAS, water is a limited and renewable resource subject to ever increasing demands; and WHEREAS, the State and County of Sonoma have experienced several years of low rainfall; and WHEREAS, water must be managed and used efficiently so that the benefit from each gallon is increased and so that populations and economies may expand without increasing their demands for water; and WHEREAS, residents of the City of Rohnert Park have a long and strong history of interest in protecting our water resources; and WHEREAS, it is important for the City of Rohnert Park water users to set an example of leadership in the efficient use of water; and WHEREAS, it is desirable to reduce water consumption to an extent that would not occur without water conservation programs; and WHEREAS, landscaping consumes about 50a of all water in urban and suburban areas; and WHEREAS, urban water districts are required to prepare and adopt urban water management plans by December 31 of each year; and WHEREAS, it is desirable and economical for Rohnert Park to coordinate and participate with the Sonoma County Water Agency, other cities and water districts which are regular customers of the Sonoma County Water Agency in developing and implementing water conservation efforts and programs including preparing an annual Urban Water Management Plan. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Rohnert Park urges and requests all water users in Rohnert Park to immediately begin voluntary water conservation efforts and practices such as, but not limited to, the following: - Run only full loads in your dishwasher and washing machine. - Don't let the faucet run needlessly while cleaning vegetables, brushing teeth, etc. - Don't let water run while washing your car. - Take shorter showers. - Check for water leaks; don't leave faucets dripping. - Set landscaping time clocks to minimum watering cycles to conserve water. Resolution No. 91- °2- BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Rohnert Park pledges to participate and cooperate with the Sonoma County Water Agency and its regular customers in water conservation efforts and programs including, but not necessarily limited to, the following ten -point program: 1. Call for volunteer conservation by March 1, 1991. 2. Provide distribution of .in -home saving devices with discount low flow shower head(s) offer. 3. Provide turf irrigation training seminars. 4. Develop appropriate landscape guidelines or incentive programs. 5. Require 1.6 gallons or less per flush toilets for new and remodeled construction. 6. Provide classroom teaching programs for 1st thru 12th grades. 7. Locally boost individual and City water conservation programs. 8. Participate in haul station network for rural areas. 9. Utilize recycled water where appropriate. 10. Provide public information. DULY AND REGULARLY ADOPTED this 26th day of February, 1991.
