A RESOLUTION APPROVING JOB DESCRIPTION
AND SETTING CERTAIN PAY RATE AND RANGE FOR

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Rohnert Park that the job
description for the following position which is attached to this resolution
and by reference thereto incorporated herein and the pay rate and range for
same as listed below is hereby approved:

MAINTENANCE WORKER II - ELECTRICIAN
DEFINITION
April 1991
Under general supervision, to perform skilled, journey -level work in the
installation, maintenance, repair, replacement, and alteration of electrical
systems and equipment found in City buildings and facilities; to perform semi-
skilled and skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of City
buildings, streets, grounds, parks, sewer and water systems; to operate a variety
of light and heavy power- driven equipment; to fight fires; and do related work as
required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the journey -level class in the Maintenance Worker series, performing
semi - skilled and skilled maintenance duties. This classification may
occasionally oversee work performed by Maintenance Worker I's and Maintenance
Helpers, and on a training or emergency basis may be assigned duties normally
assigned to the Maintenance Worker III series.
Positions in this classification perform the full range of skilled and
complex tasks required to ensure that electrically controlled and operated
equipment and systems function properly. Work may involve maintenance and repair
of electronic equipment found in water supply and wastewater treatment
facilities, traffic signals and other City systems.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs skilled electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work
involving all municipal facilities, water and sewage pumping stations, buildings,
ballfields, street lighting and traffic signal systems; troubleshoot
malfunctioning equipment to determine the nature of the problem; repair or
replace defective or worn electrical parts in motors, generators, pumps,
controllers, lighting systems, and other fixtures and equipment; perform
preventive maintenance on electrical systems, motors, and equipment; repair small
and large electrical appliances; repair electronic components of electrical
equipment as required for continued operation; repair and reset traffic signal
equipment on an emergency basis; inspect newly installed equipment and lighting
to ensure safe and satisfactory functioning; maintain accurate records of work
performed, materials used, and associated costs; performs a variety of semi-
skilled and skilled duties in construction and maintenance of streets, buildings,
water systems, sewers, and parks; performs carpentry, electrical, and plumbing
work as assigned; and performs firefighting duties as assigned; may be assigned
stand -by duty.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of an appropriate California driver's license issued by the State
Department of Motor Vehicles.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, tools, equipment, and procedures used in the
installation, maintenance, repair, replacement, and alteration of
electrical equipment.
Components and parts used in modern electrical wiring systems such as
pumps, motors, controls, and lighting.
Basic principles and components found in electronic control and
microprocessing devices.
Occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the work.
National Electric Code and OSHA standards.
Journey -level knowledge of the use of a variety of hand tools and power
tools.
Safe driving practices and laws pertaining to the operation of motor
vehicles and heavy motorized equipment.
Grounds, street, building, sewer, and water system maintenance.

Ability to:
Work independently and make sound decisions regarding methods and tools.
Provide technical assistance and work direction to other employees and
contractors.
Understand and interpret written and oral instructions.
Read blueprints and wiring diagrams.
Prepare and maintain records, reports, and work estimates.
Perform work at heights and in emergency and hazardous situations.
Maintain and repair electronic devices.
Skillfully operate light, medium, and heavy trucks and power- driven
equipment.
Perform minor field maintenance, repair and adjustment of such equipment.
Perform heavy manual labor.
Perform outside work.
Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.

Training and Experience: Any combination of training and experience which
would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Two years of journey level experience which has included installation,
repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a variety of electrical
equipment such as found in a municipality; and
Two years of experience performing duties comparable to a Maintenance
Worker I in the City of Rohnert Park.
