RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND APPROVING JOB DESCRIPTIONS
FOR CERTAIN PART -TIME RECREATION POSITIONS
WHEREAS, in February 1981, the City established certain job classifications
for part -time positions at City swimming pools and recreation facilities; and
WHEREAS, there have been changes in the duties among certain part -time
recreation positions; and
WHEREAS, the State of California, Health and Safety Code and the American
Red Cross have established new requirements and certification standards for
persons providing lifeguarding at public pools; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Recreation has submitted information outlining
other duties and information for the establishment of new job descriptions for
certain part -time recreation positions; and
WHEREAS, City staff feels it is appropriate to update certain job
classifications for part -time recreation positions in order to provide for new
requirements and certifications standards; and
WHEREAS, City staff feels it is appropriate to establish a new job
classification for Part -time Sports Center Coordinator.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Rohnert Park
that the updated and new job descriptions for part -time positions for the City's
Recreation Department which are attached to this resolution and by reference
thereto incoporated herein are hereby approved.

DEFINITION
May 1991
Under supervision, to collect fees and admission; to check -in and safekeep
patron's valuables; to keep records of work performed; and to do related work as
required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Collects and makes change for fees for admission to a swimming pool;
accounts for daily receipts in a prescribed manner; checks patron's valuables in
and out when requested; assists and instructs patrons in the proper use of
facilities; aids in the enforcement of rules and regulations; enrolls swimming
class students, collecting fees for class; keeps all foodstuffs and office
supplies on hand; gives first aid for minor accidents such as scrapes, cuts, and
beestings; keeps office and general area around the office clean; answers all
phone calls.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a current Standard First Aid Certificate issued by the
American Red Cross and a Cardio- Pulmonary Resuscitation Certificate issued by the
American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Individual must be at least 15 -1/2 years of age.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Swimming pool rules and regulations.
Elementary first aid principles.

SWIMMING POOL MANAGER OR
SENIOR LIFEGUARD
DEFINITION
May 1991
Under general supervision, to direct the activities of a community swimming
pool; to manage all functions pertaining to the program of a community swimming
pool; and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Responsible for the seasonal operation of a community swimming pool;
conducts swimming contests, water pageants, and other pool activities; schedules
and supervises swim staff personnel; sees that all rules and regulations are
enforced regarding the health, safety and deportment of all persons using the
swimming pool; maintains the swimming pool in a clean and orderly condition and
makes regular inspections of the sanitation and maintenance in accordance with
local and State health and safety regulations; tests water for chlorine and
acidity content and temperature, and adjust controls to maintain desirable
conditions in the swimming pool; has responsibility for the maintenance of
swimming pool records and reports, including cash transactions, attendance,
accident reports, and supply records; assists' with ordering and maintenance of
supplies necessary to operate the swimming pool and requests repairs, maintenance
or additions to equipment, and groundskeeping as needed; acts as a pool lifeguard
when needed.
The distinction between a Pool Manager and Senior Lifeguard is made on the
basis of the amount of time spent doing management activities. A Swimming Pool
Manager is responsible for continued management on a full -time basis. A Senior
Lifeguard will spend time as a lifeguard or in another capacity and manage a
swimming pool on an as needed basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a current Lifeguarding Certificate, Water Safety Instructor
Certificate, Standard First Aid Certificate, and Lifeguard First Aid Certificate
issued by the American Red Cross, a Cardio- Pulmonary Resuscitation Certificate
and Basic Life Support Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or American
Heart Association.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Swimming strokes, water safety, and lifesaving techniques.
Use and care of lifesaving equipment used at swimming pools.
The operation and maintenance of swimming pools.
Laws governing the operation of a community swimming pool.

SPORTS CENTER COORDINATOR
DEFINITION

Under general supervision, assists with the day -to -day operation of the
Sports Center, including greeting the public and assisting the public in the use
of the Sports Center; answers questions regarding a variety of recreation
activities; answer telephones and provides information regarding fees and
schedules; provide routine building maintenance; maintain orderly use of the
facility; supervise staff to ensure procedures and policies are followed and
assigned maintenance tasks are completed; may be assigned duties of the
Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Program Assistant in their absence; and to do
related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Schedule racquetball reservations; process new or renewal Sports Center
memberships and collect fees; operates cash register, computer and other office
equipment; check members into various activities; issue equipment; perform sales
and rental transactions; dust mops gymnasium and racquetball court floors; vacuum
hallways; wash windows; perform other duties as assigned.
SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS
Possession of a valid First Aid Certificate and Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation Certificate.
Possession of an appropriate California driver's license issued by the State
Department of Motor Vehicles is desired.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
City policies, rules, and regulations.
Operations, procedures, rules and precedents of the Recreation Department
and Sports Center.
Modern office methods, procedures, and equipment.
Recordkeeping.
Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Facility operation and maintenance.
