A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
SUPPORTING NORTH BAY 101 CORRIDOR COMMUTE CAMPAIGN
WHEREAS, the California Clean Air Act was passed to meet
air quality standards so that people in the Bay Area can
breathe healthier air every day of the year; and
WHEREAS, the ozone standard was violated fourteen days
last year in the Bay Area, and the air was unhealthy to
breathe; and
WHEREAS, automobiles /single occupant vehicles are the
major source of air pollution in the North Bay; and
WHEREAS, traffic congestion is a primary issue in Marin
and Sonoma counties, and the communities' economic vitality is
dependent on goods, services, and employees being able to move
freely through the counties; and
WHEREAS, carpools and vanpools make a significant
contribution to improving air quality and reducing congestion
by getting commuters out of their single occupant cars, which
helps reduce harmful pollutants in the environment such as
carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons; and
WHEREAS, RIDES, the regional rideshare agency, encourages
ridesharing by educating commuters and employers and
developing supporting programs for cities and county TSM
efforts; and
WHEREAS, RIDES' North Bay 101 Corridor Commute Campaign,
CONSERVE: A WAY OF LIFE,
will help conserve fuel, ensure continued economic vitality,
and improve the air quality of the North Bay.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the
City of Rohnert Park endorses and supports the North Bay 101
Corridor Commute Campaign,
CONSERVE: A WAY OF LIFE,
and encourages zCfrpive community participation in this
important effort
