2000/05/09 City Council Resolution (11)RESOLUTION NO. 2000-96 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK In Honor of our Sister City, Hashimoto, and Proclaiming MAY 5t" as CHILDREN'S DAY in Rohnert Park WHEREAS, Hashimoto City in Japan, Sister City to the City of Rohnert Park, did duly send this May the Koinobori; and WHEREAS, the City of Rohnert Park did receive and accept the above - mentioned symbol with explanation of its meaning as a gift from its Sister City; and WHEREAS, this Koinobori, with its beautiful symbology, is flown during the month of May outside the homes and in gardens, both public and private throughout Japan; and WHEREAS, its beauty and majesty are considered a seasonal poem for children all over Japan, offering encouragement with the colorful Carp flowing in the wind symbolizing strength and perseverance; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED and KNOWN by the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park that it does hereby honor the custom, tradition, and cultural exchange of our most honorable Sister City, Hashimoto, by adopting their Festival for the Children in Rohnert Park. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Rohnert Park agrees to proudly fly the Koinobori during the Month of May in the traditional manner of our Sister City, Hashimoto, and that it does hereby proclaim May 5th as Children's Day, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park that it does pledge its cooperation in the hope of promoting the exchange of culture and education.
