A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
Requesting that the
CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATURE
ALLOCATE $2 BILLION FOR REPAIR OF LOCAL STREETS AND ROADS
WHEREAS, in the past two decades, due to take -aways of property and other tax
revenues, California's local governments have been unable to adequately maintain city streets and
county roads;.and
WHEREAS, this has left the County of Sonoma as well as the nine Cities in Sonoma
County with millions of dollars in deferred street maintenance; and
WHEREAS, the State of California has enjoyed a surplus of revenues in excess of
budgeted expenditures for several years in a row; and.
WHEREAS, the State of California's fiscal year 1999 -2000 surplus is estimated at
between $6 and $12 billion; and
WHEREAS, the Governor has not yet proposed that members of the legislature allocate
any of these surplus funds for a fair and equitable distribution throughout the State of California.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rohnert
Park does hereby request that members of the California State legislature approve an additional
$2 billion to the local Regional Transportation Planning Agencies, above and beyond amounts
already scheduled to be allocated in the 2001 -2002 STIR This additional $2 billion appropriation
should be for the sole purpose of addressing the above - mentioned deferred maintenance of local
streets and roads.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be sent to Governor Gray
Davis, State Senator John Burton, Assemblymember Kerry Mazzoni, and to the City Councils and
Board of Supervisors in Sonoma County, as well as to the League of California Cities.
