A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE EXISTENCE OF A TEMPORARY SUMMER-
TIME IMPAIRMENT OF WATER SUPPLY AND REQUESTING CUSTOMERS TO
VOLUNTARILY REDUCE WATER CONSUMPTION BY 15%
WHEREAS:
1. The Sonoma County Water Agency, which supplies a significant portion of the City of
Rohnert Park's potable water supply, has declared a temporary impairment of the Sonoma County
Water Agency Transmission System exists during the summer months of June, July, August and
September during which the delivery capacity of the system may, from time to time, be insufficient
to meet all demands placed upon it.
2. The Cities and Water Districts dependent on the Sonoma County Water Agency for a
significant portion of their potable water supply have entered into an agreement which allocates
the available supply.
3. It is reasonable and prudent to curtail summer usage to preserve sufficient water for
essential uses including water for fire protection.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park
that during the summer months of June, July, August and September of year 2000, all
potable water customers of the City are requested to:
1. Voluntarily use water efficiently and reduce less essential uses of water with the goal of
achieving an overall system -wide reduction of 15 %.
2. Apply irrigation water only during the evening and early morning hours to reduce
evaporation losses.
3. As soon as possible, inspect all irrigation systems, repair leaks, and adjust spray heads to
provide optimum coverage and eliminate avoidable over - spray.
4 For irrigation valves controlling water applied to lawns, vary the minutes of run -time
consistent with fluctuations in weather.
5. Reduce minutes of run -time for each irrigation cycle if water begins to run -off to gutters
and ditches before the irrigation cycle is completed.
6. Become conversant with and strictly adhere to the City's Water Waste Prohibition
Ordinance.
7. Utilize water conservation incentive, rebate and giveaway programs to replace water
guzzling plumbing fixtures and appliances with water efficient models.
8. Take advantage of the free information available from the City of Rohnert Park on how to
use water efficiently, read your water meter, repair ordinary leaks, how to make your landscape a
water efficient landscape, etc.
