2000/10/24 City Council ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 2000 -215 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK PROCLAIMING OCTOBER as "DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION MONTH" WHEREAS, according to the FBI, a person is battered every seven seconds; and, in Sonoma County in 1999, over 3,000 calls for assistance related to domestic violence were received by the YWCA's Domestic Violence Hotline; and WHEREAS, in half of the families where spousal abuse occurs, the children are battered as well, and violence has a particularly devastating impact on young children who witness violent incidents and suffer in silence while they await the next frightening occurrence; and WHEREAS, stopping this reprehensible practice in the home requires the support and involvement of all connected to the criminal justice system, as well as the courage of survivors; and WHEREAS, enhanced prevention and intervention efforts, both within the criminal justice system, county departments and the community, will help increase awareness of the severity and extent of domestic violence and hopefully, reduce acts of violence among family members.
