2001/01/23 City Council Resolution (2)RESOLUTION NO. 2001-19
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
OBSERVING
Saturday, February 10, 2001 as
NATIONAL ORGAN DONOR DAY
WHEREAS, every family hopes that if a loved one becomes seriously ill, medical science will be able to provide a miracle; and
WHEREAS, medical science has been able to do exactly that over the past decade for many families with loved ones suffering from diseases
and injuries that affect the heart, kidney, pancreas, lungs, liver or tissues; and
WHEREAS, organ & tissue transplant has become one of the most remarkable success stories in medicine, giving tens of thousands of
desperately ill Americans a new chance at life each year; and
WHEREAS, sadly, this miracle is not yet available to all in need. Waiting lists in California are growing more rapidly than the number of
organs and tissues donated. The average waiting time for a liver for a Blood type A in California is 1,000 days compared to 26 days in some
other parts of the United States; and
WHEREAS, if only half of the eligible donors actually donated their organs, there would be no shortage and over 5,000 of our fellow
Californians would be alive at the end of this year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park that it supports February 10, 2001 as National
Organ Donor Day and encourages members of our community to discuss the importance of organ donation with their loved ones to insure
family cooperation in carrying out the donor's wishes.
