A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
Proclaiming Rohnert Park's Commitment to Conserve Electricity and to meet the Conservation
Goals of
Governor Gray Davis' Request for Emergency 7% Energy Reduction
WHEREAS, California faces unprecedented energy challenges and severe electricity supply
shortages; and
WHEREAS, the importance of immediate energy conservation efforts cannot be overstated; and
WHEREAS, the League of California Cities in cooperation with Governor Gray Davis has asked all
California cities to reduce the use of electricity by 7 %; and.
WHEREAS, to demonstrate California's commitment to conserve electricity, the Governor has
directed state agencies and cities to reduce electricity use in their facilities by 5% immediately, and by
7% as soon as possible; and
WHEREAS, Rohnert Park has already implemented the following projects to conserve energy:
✓ Turn off lights in unoccupied areas such as break rooms, meeting rooms, etc.
✓ Check lighting in hallways to see if it can be reduced without causing a safety hazard
✓ Shut down computers when leaving work in the evening
✓ Turn off computer monitors when out of the office for extended periods of time
✓ Eliminate the use of individual electric heaters at workspace
✓ Reduce thermostat 5% - Wear heavier clothes
✓ Watch for additional measures that can be taken
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council the City of Rohnert Park working
with City staff has taken actions to immediately reduce electricity use by 5% and is committed to
reducing its ongoing electricity use by 7 %; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Rohnert Park urges its residents and businesses to
likewise reduce electricity use by 7 %.
