RESOLUTION NO. 2001 -77
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY i
Declaring
Thursday, APRIL 19, 2001 as
TAKE OUR CHILDREN TO WORK DAY
WHEREAS, our youth of today will be the workforce of tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, statistics show that, in the 21s' Century, three of five new positions in the workforce will
be filled by women, making it in our best interest to invest in the girls and boys of today, since our
economic future depends on our children; and
WHEREAS, research shows that the presence of a caring adult role model is critical to the
development of competent children; and
WHEREAS, recent research shows that both boys and girls suffer self- esteem issues when they
enter into adolescence and puberty; and
WHEREAS, this lack of self-esteem is evidenced in disturbing new statistics for both boys and girls
regarding body image — steroids for boys — known to researchers as "reverse anorexia nervosa" or
"muscle dymorphia" and eating disorders for girls; adolescent depression is also prevalent in both
boys and girls as girls are four times more likely to attempt suicide while boys are four times more
likely to commit suicide; and
WHEREAS, while boys have traditionally outperformed girls in math and science, girls are
outperforming boys in reading and writing; and
