PROPOSED BUILDING DEPARTMENT FEES
Summary of Fee Calculations
The Building Department is proposing five new fees and an increase in one existing fee. California's
Government Code, Section No. 66016 requires that the City describe "...the amount of cost, or
estimated costs, required to provide the service for which the fee or service charge is levied and the
revenue sources anticipated to provide the service...."
Therefore, the following information is being provided in order to comply with the requirements of
Government Code Section No. 66016, mentioned above. The information supplied addresses the
Government Code requirements as they related to each of the six proposed Building Department fees:

$60.00 per hour charge is based on the following figures: Building Inspector hourly wages $34.75
Benefits estimated at 40% of wages $13.90
Sub -total $48.65
Overhead costs estimated at 30% 14.60
Total $63.25
The total figure of $63.25 is rounded off to $60.00, in this case, for ease of calculation.
"" This fee is based on $80.00 + $2.50 per $10,000 valuation of work to be performed. It is anticipated that
the $80.00 base fee will cover the basic cost for the Building Official, Building Inspector and Department
Secretary, as well as other City staff members when needed, to prepare the Permission to Proceed. The
additional $2.50 per $10,000 valuation is an estimated figure which will cover additional costs, increased
proportionally to the complexity and extent of the anticipated work, such as pre - issuance meetings, post
issuance meetings & inspections performed under the Permission to Proceed.
The cost of the Building Official's time is calculated as follows: Hourly wages - $43.50
Benefits estimated at 40% $17.40
Sub -total $60.90
Overhead costs at 30% 18.20
Total $79.10
The total figure of $79.10 is rounded off, in this case, to $65.00 for the issuance of a Temporary Occupancy
Approval.
