2001/10/09 City Council ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 2001 -206
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
In Remembrance of
LIVES LOST SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, our Nation was stunned as it reeled
under multiple savage terrorist attacks; and
WHEREAS, thousands of innocent lives were lost and thousands more
devastated by injuries and by the loss of loved ones; and
WHEREAS, lives of police, fire, and emergency personnel were taken
while these brave heroes were in the very act of trying to save others; and
WHEREAS, the tragedy touched the lives of all Americans. Our sense of
security was shattered as we realized that unidentified enemies reside
within our shores, live in our neighborhoods, attend our schools, and
secretly conspire to destroy our Nation, our people, and our freedoms;
and
WHEREAS, we are the offspring of courageous generations before us
who have risen to whatever challenges they faced - and so will we. The
Statue of Liberty inscription reads: Give me your tired, your poor, your
huddled masses yearning to breathe free.—send these, the homeless,
tempest tossed to me. There is strength in our diversity and now in our
unity, for United We Stand.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Rohnert Park that it honors and remembers those who needlessly
perished in this tragedy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we deliver funds donated through
Pennies for Peace with this Resolution to the Mayor of New York City and,
further, that a ceremony commemorating these lives be held in October
with flags flown on the Avenue of the Flags.
DULYAND REGULARLY ADOPTED this 91h day of October, 2001
