2001/10/09 City Council Resolution (4)A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 23-31,2001 as "RED RIBBON WEEK" DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION & AWARENESS WEEK WHEREAS, the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs continues to create serious health and safety risks for young people in California and throughout the United States; and WHEREAS, it is imperative that community members launch unified and visible tobacco, alcohol, and drug prevention education programs to help eliminate the demand for these substances; and WHEREAS, Californians for Drug -Free Youth, Inc. (CADFY), coordinates the California Red Ribbon Celebration to offer our citizens the opportunity to assist our youth in developing confidence and self - assurance; enjoying close, happy family ties; striving for good grades; taking pride in appearance; hanging out with winners; leading a healthy life style; pursuing enriching hobbies; participating in sports, and handling money wisely; and WHEREAS, parents, youth, government, business, law enforcement, schools, religious institutions, health and human service organizations, media, and the general public will demonstrate their commitment to drug -free communities by wearing and displaying Red Ribbons during this week -long celebration; and WHEREAS, many individuals and groups work year round to prevent tobacco, alcohol, and drug use and related violence by young people in Sonoma County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rohnert Park does hereby support and proclaim October 23 -31, 2001 as "RED RIBBON WEEK" and encourages the citizens of Rohnert Park to join in the battle against alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs and to commit to a safe, healthy, drug -free community in which to raise a generation of healthy youth. DULY AND REGULARLY ADOPTED this 9th day of October, 2001.
