1962/09/18 City Council Resolution 16RESOLUTION NO. 16 RESOLUTION ENDORSING PROPOSITION 1 -A WHEREAS, California and Sonoma County's future rests with its young people, and its leadership and economic well -being depend on their education; m.. WHEREAS, in the next four years the number of California high school graduates seeking a college education will increase 40 per cent, and class- rooms and laboratories will be needed for 120,000 additional students; and WHEREAS, the State Legislature and the Governor have placed on the November 6 ballot Proposition 1 -A, a $ 270 million bond issue, 80 per cent of whose funds is directed toward expansion of California's Junior Colleges, State Colleges, and University campuses; and WHEREAS, 20 per cent of these funds is committed to meeting specific and critical needs in the areas of assistance to the mentally retarded and mentally ill, forest fire fighting and conservation, and control of crime, delinquency and narcotics; and WHEREAS, the City Council of Rohnert Park strongly supports Calif- ornia's commitment to provide its most able young people with a college education; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Rohnert Park City Council, meeting on this 18th day of September, 1962, does publicly endorse the passage of Proposition 1 -A to make necessary provisions for the future of California higher education; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this City Council does urge its members to work individually and as a group toward passage of this Prop- osition in the election of November 69 1962.
