2016/07/28 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission MinutesSENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES Thursday, July 28, 2016 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date at Rohnert Park Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, for a special meeting to commence at 1:00pm. Call to order The meeting was called to order by Chair Sampson 1:02pm 1. Roll Call: Present: Chair Sampson, Commissioners Ackerman, Abbott, Burton Absent: Garvey (excused absence) Staff Present: Mitch Austin, Community Services Manager John McArthur, Director of Public Works and Community Services Hannah Deeter, Community Service Program Coordinator 2. Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chair Sampson. 3. Acknowledgment of Meeting Agenda Posting: Community Services Program Coordinator Deeter acknowledged posting of the regular meeting agenda at the required public places per Brown Act requirements. 4. Public Comment: No public comment. 5. Approval of Minutes: With no objection or comments from the Commissioners, Chair Sampson approved the minutes from the May 19, 2016 regular meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. 6. Activities Report a. Community Services Coordinator — Deeter introduced herself as a new employee and announced the 7 1 Annual Summer BBQ details. The new Sunshine Bus Driver was also announced. b. Dining Site —The Council on Aging Dining Site Manager reported preparing an average of 1,800 meals prepared for Meals On Wheels, including deliveries. this has been consistent for the last three to four months. 7. Parks and Recreation Commission Liaison Report: a. Dorotea Fitness Course Grand Opening Manager Austin shared that the grand opening for the new fitness course at Dorotea Park will be on Friday, August 5th at 12:00 p.m. b. Council on Aging Dishwasher/Kitchen Update Manager Autsin reported that the department has been looking into purchasing a dishwasher and will be looking into how to fit the purchase in the budget. The kitchen staff reported that the exhaust fan in the kitchen not working properly and asked the City to look into fixing it. 8. City Council Liaison Report: a. Smart Train Mayor Belforte reported that the Smart Train begin operating in late September or early October. She also stated the importance of stopping behind the double yellow line while at a red light. b. Road Construction Update Mayor Belforte stated that the construction on Rohnert Park Expressway is finished and that the repaving of State Farm would begin next year. c. Founder's Day, Sports Center Celebration & Crime Rates Mayor Belforte announced that Founder's Day is on Saturday, October 1St and that the celebration for the Callinan Sports Center's 30th Anniversary would be held in December. Crime rates were reported as being lower in the first half of this year than they were in December of last year. Community Services Manager & Director Report: Manager Austin shared that he and Program Coordinator Deeter recently met with Sweet Pea Gift Shop board members and are looking into working on more partnerships with them in the future. a. Capital Improvement Update Director McArthur reported that there are plans to repave Enterprise Drive and Seed Farm Road within the month which includes the parking lot of the Senior Centdr. The department is also in design for a roof replacement of the building including the gutter system. They will look into repairing the exhaust vent in the kitchen while the roof is being worked on. Alternative parking for Senior Center patrons will be looked into. b. Peace Garden Manager Austin reported that the Peace Garden project would be starting in the spring due to the parking lot repaving and roof replacement projects. 10. Communications Shopping carts that are left outside the building were asked to be addressed. The City is looking into potentially dedicating a parking spot specifically for shopping carts. More coffee bar volunteers have been approved and will start soon. 11. Matters to/from Commissioners: Chair Burton expressed concern about how the extra materials from City construction/renovation projects are recycled.
