1. Call to Order
Chair Hensel called the meeting to order at 5:34 PM.
2. Introductions
The BAC members present introduced themselves. Additional City staff present included
Lieutenant Jeff Taylor and Sergeant Aaron Johnson of the City of Rohnert Park Department of Public
Safety.
3. Oath of Office
New member Katherine Musick was administered the Oath of Office.
4. General Discussion with City of Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety
Chair Hensel introduced the item.
Lt. Taylor gave a brief overview of the Public Safety Department's approach to patrol, traffic,
enforcement, and community presence; its history of bicycle patrol and change in resource availability
toward that program; recent efforts to address creek area transient population and creek path safety.
Sgt. Johnson presented information on Rohnert Park's rankings in 2012 Office of Traffic Safety
for bicycle and pedestrian injuries, collisions and arrests; the administrative citation process; successes
in engineering solutions such as new bike lanes (for example Camino Colegio project between East
Cotati Avenue and Southwest Boulevard), road diets, and green bike lanes. He also discussed
enforcement challenges on issues such as sidewalk riding, including municipal code deficiencies and a
general culture of vehicle law non-compliance among the student population in Rohnert Park.
There was also general discussion among the group on licenses, speed limits posting, and the
role of the community's self-identity as a bicycling community or not.

Ms. Tacata explained that a City e-mail account has been set up for each BAC member and
should be used.
6. Public Comments
There was no member from the public present.
Board members mentioned future meeting agenda items, including: (1) SB 192, introduced by
Senator Carol Liu and which would require mandatory bicycle helmet use, and (2) renaming of the
BAC to be a Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
7. Adjournment
Mr. Gold moved to adjourn the meeting; the motion being seconded by Mr. Williams and
carried unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:35 PM.
