2017/05/18 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission MinutesSENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION/ FRIENDS OF THE ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CENTER BOARD JOINT REGULAR MEETING Thursday, May 18, 2017 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date at Rohnert Park Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, for a regular meeting to commence at 12:30pm. 1. Senior Citizens Advisory Commission/Friends of the Rohnert Park Senior Center Board Joint Regular Meeting - Call to Order/Roll Call Chair Sampson called the meeting to order at 12:30pm, the notice for which being legally noted on May 18, 2017. Present: Elaine Sampson, Chair Nancy Garvey, Commissioner Caryl Sherman, Commissioner Cheryl Burton, Commissioner Absent: Loreen Abbott, Commissioner Staff Present: Director of Public Works and Community Services McArthur, Community, Services Manager Bagley, Community Services Program Coordinator Deeter, City Clerk Buergler, and Deputy City Clerk Saldanha. 2. Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chair Sampson. 3. Acknowledgment of Meeting Agenda Posting: The regular meeting agenda was posted at the required public places per the Brown Act requirements. 4. Approval of Minutes: With no objection or comments from the Commissioners, Chair Sampson approved the minutes from the January 17, 2017 regular meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. 5. Brief Refresher on the Ralf M. Brown Act City Clerk Buergler presented the item with included an overview the Brown Act for City Commissioners, Committees, and Boards. 6. Senior Center Report a. Council on Aging Dining Site Manager Newly appointed Council on Aging dining site coordinator, Rob Newman presented the item. Newman reported that 680 meals were served in the month of March and 561 in April. The service of meals recently changed to one table at a time as opposed to first-come, first-served. 7. Talbot Tours Community Services Manager Bagley presented the item. With hopes to provide travel opportunities to the senior community, staff will be moving forward with intent to partner with Talbot Tours. 8. Senior Center Donations Community Services Program Coordinator Deeter presented the item. Rohnert Park residents addressed the Commission stating their concern that donations are no longer accepted at the Senior Center. Recommendation from the Commission is to re -introduce the donation table with specific regulations and work with volunteers to monitor content and quantity of items. 9. Parks & Recreation Commission Liason Report Parks & Recreation Commissioner Black presented the report which included the all-weather field at Sunrise Park, Pickleball courts Sunrise Park, the upcoming park audit and a reminder that the next Parks and Recreation Commission meeting is on Thursday, May 18, 2017, 5 pm in the Council Chambers. 10. City Council Liason Report Councilmember Belforte presented the report which included the City budget, water rate increase, restabilization of trails, the cooling system at the Callinan Sports and Fitness Center, hiring of a Code Compliance Officer, painting of Gold Course Dr./Smart Train intersection, and pot hole and general road repairs. 11. Community Services Manager & Director Report: a. Friends of the Rohnert Park Senior Center Report Community Service Manager Bagley presented the item. Currently, revenue from Friday night BINGO amount to $27,603.00 12. Communications No communications. 13. Public Comment Council on Aging volunteer thanked the Commission and City Staff for raising the sanitizer in the Senior Center kitchen. 14. Matters to/from Commissioners Commissioner Sherman asked about the possibility of having the Senior Center walls painted a more bright color. Staff will be looking into this option. Commissioner Burton asked about the possibility of extending the hours of the computer lab. Staff will also be looking into this as a possibility. 15. Adjournment There being no further business, Chair Sampson adjourned the regular meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission at 1:35 pm.
