2016/02/26 Parks and Recreation Commission MinutesPARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION OF'THE CITY OF'ROHNERT PARK SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES Thursday, February 26, 2016 The Parks and Recreation Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date at Rohnert Park Community Center, 5401 Snyder Lane, Rohnert Park, for a special meeting to commence at 2:30pm. Call to order The meeting was called to order by Vice Chair Griffinat239 p.m. Item 1. Roll Call: Present: Chair Borr, Vice-Chair Griffin, Commissioner Black, Absent: Commissioners Bird, Canterbury Staff Present: Mitch Austin, Community Services Manager Item 2. Acknowledgment of Meeting Agenda Posting: Community Services Manager Austin acknowledged posting of the special meeting agenda in the required public places per Brown Act requirements. Item 3. Public Comment: None. Item 4. Subcommittee Appointments: The following appointments were made: Bicycle Committee Liaison - Commissioner Griffin (Lead), Chair Borr (Alternate) Dog Park Subcommittee - Comissioner Black (Lead), Canterbury (Alternate) The Subcomittee appointments will be continued at the March meeting. Commissioner Griffin expressed his interest to remain on the Golf Course Oversight Committee. Item 5. Review of Revised Parks and Facilities Master Plan a. Review and Comment Suggested by Commissioner Black to provide Master Plan updates in an addendum format as an attachment to the plan. This suggestion was supported by the other two Commissioners as well. a A short list of other park amenities not shown in the master plan was discuss. The list included: o Skate Park features o Bocce Ball Courts o Theme Based Parks (such as dinosaur theme or ocean theme) o Community Gardens o lnteractive environmentallyfocusedamenities o Community or Nieghborhood park development on the west side of town o Signature Play Area that is ADA accessible o Pump Course, designed for bikes o Indoor Heated Pool o Group picnic and event area Chair Borr represented Commissioner Canterbury's comments to the group which included wanting more constant feedback from the community. Perhaps using survey or having an outreach plan. The need for more diversity of amenities in the parks such as bocce courts and skate park, also, the importance of connecting with youth. Item 6. Review of Revised Parks and Facilities Master Plan and Park Audit to City Council a. Review and Comment It was discussed that the Park Audit items would be followed up internally with Park Maintenance staff. The presentation to the City Council would include initial presentation by staff and the invitation for the chosen speaker to represent the Commission would make their remarks next emphasizing key aspects of Master Plan changes and their importance. Item 7. Matters To/From Commissioners None Item 8.There being no further business, adjourned the regular meeting of the Parks and at 3:40 p.m. Renée
