REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, September 15, 2016
The Parks and Recreation Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date at Rohnert park
City Hall, 130 Avram Avenue, Rohnert park, for a regular meeting to commence at 6:00pm.
Call to order
The meeting was called to order by Chair Borr at 6:02 p.m.
Item 1. Roll Call
Present: chair Borr, vice-chair Griffin, commissioner canterbury
Absent: Commissioners Bird, Black

John McArthur, Director of Public V/orks and Community Services

Item 2. Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chair Borr.
Item 3. Acknowledgment of Meeting Agenda posting
Acting Community Services Manager Herman acknowledged posting of the regular meeting
agenda in the required public places per Brown Act requirements.
Item 4. Public Comment
None.
Item 5. Approval of Minutes
Action: Moved/Second (Griffin/Canterbury) to approve regular meeting minutes of
August 18,2016. Motion carried by the following 3-0-0-2 vote: AYES: Bon, Griffin,
Canterbury; NOS: None; ABSTAIN:None; ABSENT: Bird, Black.
Item 6. Sports Center 30th Anniversary
Ð. StaffUpdate
Acting Community Services Manager Herman advised the 30th Anniversary
celebration for the Callinan Sports and Fitness Center will be held in December,
likely the first two weeks. The event will include a promotion for new members,
highlight of the locker rooms, with promotional swag, healthy snacks. Once dates
available are determined, marketing for the event will start. The Commission
discussed later in the day would be ideal, at the end of the week, as well as including
a light meal option to attract groups/individuals. There is discussion of challenging
the City Council to free throw competition and the suggestion of including potential
health fair vendors.

Dorotea Park Play Equipment
Staff Update
Recent transitions with staffing in the Community Services Department has slowed
the process for replacement of Dorotea Park playground equipment. The next steps
will include Public Works staff bringing concepts forward to the Commission and
then out for community response and feedback. An update will be provided in
October.
Review and Discuss
The Commission discussed both the tot-lot and playgrounds being replaced,
improvements in line with the par course is nice, seasonal weather would likely not
delay installation. Director McArthur stated the replacement will happen this fiscal
year.
Parks and Recreation 2016 Agenda Plan Review
Changes to the 2016 Agenda Plan include: Memorial in Parks will move from
September to November, October will include Dorotea Park and Youth Advisory
Committee (YAC), Bylaws at the January retreat, and a placeholder for the YAC
V/ork plan in November.
Matters tolfrom Commissioners
Myles Ahead Agreement
City Council on Tuesday approved the lease agreement presented for the Myles
Ahead progr¿ìm at the Sports Center with a November 14th start date which will
provide both additional members (est. 70 to 90 of the 115 current program members
will transfer) and expanded service to current membership.
Special Events coming up
Founder's Day is coming up on Saturday, October I't and will include a parade, car
show, and vendor booths.
Pumpkin Splash is scheduled at Honeybee Pool on October 15th from I to 4 PM.
Veterans Day is November 1lth and will include ceremony (11 AM) with the
community band and a keynote speaker.
Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair at the Community Center will be November 25 &,26
from l0 AM to 4 PM each day. Eighty to ninety vendors will participate including
pottery sales from the pottery studio artists.
Callinan Sports and Fitness Center's 30th Anniversary is in December, date TBD.
Youth Advisory Update
Staff will need to step back and review resources available and bring an update to the
Commission in October. Chair Borr advised he had contacted Rotary Club to
determine the details of Interact at the local high school and will share the response
received
Memorials in Parks
Staff will add this item to the November agenda and provide a report/update at that
time.
Commissioner Liaison Reports
Commissioner Griffin provided the Commission with a copy of the agenda and report
from the recent Bicycle/Pedestrian Commission meeting which included SMART
path information.
Senior Advisory Commission was held and items discussed included: installation of
an automated door on the East facing activity room; dishwasher area remodel;
Council on Aging presentation of the Age-friendly Initiative; upcoming luncheons
for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Holiday; and Office of Veterans Affairs providing
one-time a month (currently) drop-in slot for services.
Commissioner Canterbury requested an update on the Roberts Lake Rohnert Bark
Dog Park fence repair. Director McArthur advised he would provide the Commission
with an update and address concerns regarding the temporary fencing.
Commissioner Griffin commented on the recent improvements to the Roberts Lake
Brick Memorial.
Chair Borr commented on clean-up along the creek behind Eagle Park and that the
occuffences of vehicles on park lands previously discussed in the summer have
declined since having dialogues with several youth team organizations. Chair Borr
will not be in attendance at the October regular meeting.
Restrooms at Benicia Park are now open with security cameras in place.
Item 11. Adjournment
There being no further business, Chair Borr adjourned the regular meeting of the Parks and
Recreation Commission at 6:50 p.m
