2014/03/17 Parks and Recreation Commission MinutesPARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Monday March 17, 2014 The Parks and Recreation Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date at Rohnert Park City Hall, 130 Avram Avenue, Rohnert Park, for a regular meeting to commence at 6:30pm. Call to order The meeting was called to order by Chair Tracy at 6:30 p.m. Roll Call Present: Chair Tracy, Vice-Chair Bird, Commissioner Black Absent: Commissioners Griffin, Borr Staff Present: Nelle Herman, Community Services Supervisor Kimberly Roberts, Administrative Assistant Pledge of Allegiance The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chair Tracy Approval of Minutes Chair Tracy noted a correction to the minutes of January 24, 2014. The meeting was called to order by Chair Tracy, and not Chair Black. With this correction noted, motion by Black/Bird to approve the January 24, 2014 minutes. Approved 3-0. Acknowledgment of Meeting Agenda Posting Community Services Supervisor Herman acknowledged posting of the regular meeting agenda the required public places per Brown Act requirements. Public Comment None Item 1. Community Services Rate Proposal Community Services Supervisor Herman reported to the commission that City Council has approved the proposed Community Services Rate schedule and it will be effective July 1, 2014. Item 2. Draft Casino Mitigation Contribution Plan Per Community Services Supervisor Herman, this item has been pulled and will be presented at a later date. Parks and Recreation Commission Page 2 of 2 March 17, 2014 Item 3. Park Supervisor Report Community Services Supervisor Herman presented a report on behalf of General Services Supervisor Tom Kelley. Golis Parl is now open after being closed for rennovations during the winter months. Also, five 25ft tall elms have been planted on the west side of Magnolia Pool, with five more to be planted in the near future. Public Works has started up their weekly mowing schedule for the parks. Comissioner Black commented that large piles of grass clippings left on the grass after mowing are killing patches of grass at Golis park. Community Services Supervisor Herman will pass the information on to Public Works. Item 4: Community Services Supervisor Report Community Services Supervisor Herman reported to the commission that the Adult Basketball League hosted at the Callinan Fitness Center has been reintroduced and set to begin Tuesday 3/18/14. The registration for Adult Softball Leagues will begin 4/14/14. This is an ongoing program. Both the basketball and softball leagues are revenue generators for the City. The Senior Center hosted a St. Patrick’s Day event which gathered a large turnout (about 160 seniors). The Senior Center will also be holding their 2nd Annual Spring Craft Fair on Saturday 4/12/14 from 10am-4pm. Item 5. Committee Reports • Park Sponsorship Committee (Ad Hoc-meets as needed): No update, committee hasn’t met • Golf Oversight Committee Liaison: No update. Next meeting in April • Senior Citizen’s Advisory Commission Liaison (Black, Alt. Tracy): No update, committee hasn’t met • Bicycle Advisory Committee Liaison (Griffin, Alt. Bird): No report. Griffin is absent and did not pass along a report.
