This includes youth and adult soccer, Pee Wee, Cal Ripken, and Babe Ruth baseball, adult baseball, Pop Warner football, adult softball, and girl's softball. This is a big puzzle every year with 36 fields distributed among these groups. Since many of our fields are multi- use(overlapping sport fields), this needs to be a very well coordinated effort. Jan Geffre does a great job at coordinating all these groups. • The Spring-Summer Activity Guide was prepared which includes all the summer camp and swimming pool information. Publication is scheduled for the last week in March. • Burton Avenue recreation center renovation was completed and the center is back in operation. The relocation of user groups during construction was a large undertaking, especially with the loss of Ladybug Rec Center. A great job was done by Donna Abeln to accomplish this feat smoothly. • Ladybug Recreation Center was cleaned and repainted after the fire. The counter tops and new stove are still not in place, but the center was temporally opened to accommodate the polling precinct. The building is expected to be ready for occupancy min-March. • Park, picnic, field and tennis court uses booked in February=28 • Total bookings at Community Center, Burton, Ladybug and Scout Hut buildings for February= 104, rental revenue= $5,603 • Program revenue(contract classes &Rec. Dept. programs) =292 registrations totaling $21,02 • The California Park and Recreation Society named Joe & Betty Tringali the Outstanding Community Volunteers from our Community. They were honored at this year's Awards and Instillation Banquet that was held at the Margaret Todd Senior Center in Novato. We couldn't of pick two more deserving volunteers for this award. Betty had over 600 volunteers for the year. Congratulations to Betty and Joe! SPORTS & FITNESS CENTER • Monthly membership sales for February were$29,793 compared to $38,905 for Feb '03. This is significant and very disappointing considering all the effort we put into marketing our special. Year-to-date membership sales are $163,000 compared to $176,000 last year. We are currently researching the possibility of utilizing EFT(electronic fund transfer) to pay for memberships. • The gymnasium is filled each day with teenagers playing basketball. While this is a great activity for them, we receive no revenue and it makes the gym too crowded for the paying adults. We are considering a nominal yearly"open gym" membership for kids and teens and will be submitting a proposal to the Parks and Recreation Commission in the near future. • We did manage to establish a good contract for servicing the cardio equipment and managed to catch-up with our maintenance. All our treadmills are now functioning and a preventative maintenance procedure is in place. • We were host to two major events in February. The North Bay Martial Arts Championships on February 7 and the Wine Country Gymnastics Championships on February 14-15. YOUTH AND TEEN ACTIVITIES • The After School Program returned to Burton Avenue Recreation Center this month, and the kids are happy to be back. They love the"new"after schoolroom, with the painted walls and built in cubbies. It also helps that we now only transport the children from La Fiesta school, and that the participants from Waldo Rohnert can walk to the after school program site. We are looking forward to returning the La Fiesta students to Ladybug Recreation Building in the near future. • With the availability of Burton Rec, we have scheduled Teen Concerts for the following Friday nights: March 19,April 16, May 7 and May 21. SENIOR CENTER • 2/1/2004 Super Bowl Party...was a big success! We gave away over$1,400.00 in gifts during the commercials of the game. Jimmie Rogers donated$400.00 for a FREE Football Pool. Jimmie&Joyce also donated the rental of a Helium Tank, a$100.00 gift certificate to Latitude and the 100 balloons that were blown up. And last, but certainly not least, they donated the Huddle picture, which was given away after the end of the day. Pat Eckert donated $100.00 to purchase gifts to add to the Raffle Prize table. She made and donated the potato salads that were served. Jim Wilkerson took time away from his own busy schedule, to visit different places of business and ask for donations. He did a great job. Our local Food Markets gave us gift certificates and we used them to purchase the food for the day. Total revenue for the event...+$2,619.00. Eighteen volunteers worked the event. All Expenses were covered by donations. • 2/6/2004 Used Clothing Sale...the Annual Used Clothing Sale has come and gone. We collected Used Clothing and articles for a rummage table for a week. Volunteers came in the day before the event to set up the tables, hang the clothes and price the items for the Rummage table. Eight volunteers worked the event. Total revenue after expenses was...+$364.35. • 2/6/2004 Connections Across Generations... 20 seniors joined with students from SSU at the first COA meeting for the semester. This is an opportunity for our seniors to bridge the gap, to help college students learn more about older adults, and to talk candidly about issues of concern to all ages. These sessions will continue until May 7` . • 2/10/2004 Shodakai Casino Day Trip...we had 48 seniors participate in Casino Day. Revenue raised...+ $119.40 • 2/13/2004 AARP Tax Preparation Service... started this month with an overwhelming response from the public. Low and moderate seniors can receive free tax preparation and filing services at our Center. They are here from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through April 9, 2004. • Day Tripping with Martha... Martha Waller, a valued volunteer here at our Center has volunteered to research and schedule Day Trips for our participants. This month, 16 seniors visited the Charles Schulz Museum, went to lunch at King's Buffet and then on the way home stopped by to tour Canine Companions. They had a wonderful time and our looking forward to next month's adventures. Revenue from the Day Trip was+$95.00. • Cruise Party... the Senior Center has partnered with Golden Gate Tours to offer an 11 Day-10 Night Cruise to Catalina, San Diego, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta. We hosted a Cruise Party for those folks interested in traveling with us. At this time, we have 42 folks signed up for the trip. The Senior Center gets a kick back of$50.00 per sign up. To date, the Center has a credit of $2,100.00. The last day to sign up for the cruise is July 2, 2004. The trip is not limited to seniors. At present, the ages of our travelers go from 25 years to 85 years.
