2019/07/18 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes Pp H9ERT PAR,, (ie 1 Il) ^ t)2 CALI FOR''' SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Thursday, July 18, 2019 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date at Rohnert Park Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, for a regular meeting to commence at 12:30pm. 1. SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION—CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Chair Sherman called the meeting to order at 12:30pm,the notice for which being noted on July 18, 2019. Present: Caryl Sherman, Chair Lorrie Abbott, Commissioner Gary Coffman, Commissioner Phyllis Transue, Commissioner(12:35pm arrival) Absent: Cheryl Burton, Commissioner Staff Present: Director of Public Works and Community Services, McArthur, Community Services Program Coordinator, Foley. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chair Sherman. 3. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF MEETING AGENDA POSTING Community Services Program Coordinator Foley, acknowledge posting of the regular meeting agenda in the required places per Brown Act requirements. 4. Approval of Minutes Commissioner Abbott made a motion to approve the meeting minutes of Regular Meeting of April 18th, 2019. Chair Sherman seconded the motion. The motion carried with the following 3-0-2 vote. Ayes: Sherman, Abbott, Coffman; NOS: None; Abstains: None; Absent: Burton, Transue. 5. Senior Center Report a. Community Services Coordinator i. BINGO Update Community Services Program Coordinator Foley reported since the April 18th meeting, Bingo has brought in $18,095.96 �ouexr P.ikk _ bz AL/FOR''' • 19-20 budget/projects Director of Public Works and Community Services, McArthur presented the committee with the 19-20 Bingo fund and explained what building repairs/maintence would be occurring in the fiscal year at the Senior Center with the Bingo money. ii. Council on Aging Dining Site Update -Foley reported Council on Aging has been serving an average of 23 people per day in the Senior Center dining room and they have been receiving an average of$1.02 per person. iii. Senior Trips Update -Foley reported on the following trips: May- San Francisco Harbor Cruise June- Tara Firma Farm Tour July- Korbel Cellars Private Tour August- Sonoma County Fair iv. Senior Center Security Measures -Foley reported in addition to installing bight LED lights and cameras to the exterior, the Senior Center will also be changing the functioning of the doors. Since there are several different access points to the building, in order to ensure everyone's safety, the Senior Center will be utilizing the lobby doors as the primary entrance. Additionally, there will be a gate installed in the courtyard area to make it a more secure place. v. Age Friendly Community Program Update -Renee Toliver, Director of Social Services with Council on Aging provided the commission with an update on the Age Friendly Community Program. 6. Consideration of 4 Paws Pilot Program a. Staff Report Director or Public Works and Community Services, McArthur briefed the commission on the non-profit group, 4 Paws. The pilot program would include bringing the therapy dogs to the Senior Center on a scheduled date for one hour. Public comment was then made by Christie Blair, expressing her support of the 4 Paws pilot program. b. Commission recommendation Commissioner Coffman requested confirmation the dogs are certified service animals. McArthur confirmed it would be a structured program with therapy animals. 7. Parks and Recreation Commission Liaison Report Chair Canterbury reported the Sister Cities Student Ambassador, Kori Lacy gave a presentation about her trip to Hashimoto, Japan to the commission during the June meeting. Canterbury reported on a labyrinth being designed for Dorotea Park. 8. City Council Liaison Report Councilmember Adams reported on a PG&E wildfire safety Program Presentation that took place at a pervious council meeting. Adams also reported that on the 4th of July, 59 citations were given out for the use of not safe or sane fireworks. Adams reported on SMART Train crossing and gave a reminder to be aware of the train and reported the county is ramping up efforts with mental health. �yJtih ERT j>ARk CALF FOR J4 9. Community Services & Public Works Director Report a. Year End Review Accomplishments The commission was given packets that included all of the building improvements that have happened at the Senior Center over the past year. b. PG&E Power Outage Community Meeting McArthur reported that a PG&E Power Outage Community Meeting will be taking place at the Senior Center on September 18th 10. Communications None 11. PUBLIC COMMENT Sue Parker spoke about concerns regarding pedestrian safety. 12. Matters to/from Commissioners Chair Sherman presented the commission with a packet of community resources. 13.
