STANDARD:
Given a crew of 3 and 9953, the crew will use the aerial to move personnel and equipment to a
roof for vertical ventilation. Time begins when the truck stops. Time ends when the crew is on
the roof with the chainsaw(s) running, SCBA equipment donned and all other safety equipment
in place.
PERSONNEL IDENTIFICATION (by seating arrangement):
Captain
Engineer
Firefighter
PROCEDURE:
1. Captain and Engineer spot the truck for access to reach the objective
2. Engineer ensures parking brake is set prior to leaving the cab.
3. Engineer places wheel chocks on left front tire.
4. Company Officer and Firefighter don ladder belts, axe belts, SCBA’s.
5. Firefighter removes saws from the truck, starts and runs them, shuts them down, and
places them near turntable ladder.
6. Engineer extends stabilizers.
7. Engineer and Captain place stabilizer plates.
8. Engineer sets stabilizers, then pins the jacks.
9. If Engineer is going to the roof, he/she dons ladder belt, axe belt, and SCBA.
10. Captain climbs the turntable ladder. Firefighter passes the saws to the Captain.
11. Captain and Firefighter each take one saw and proceed to the platform.
12. Firefighter obtains a roof hook from the aerial and places it in the platform.
13. If the Engineer is going to the roof, he/she proceeds to the platform.
14. Captain or Engineer operates the aerial and positions it at the objective.
15. Crew dons SCBA masks.
16. Crew sounds roof prior to stepping onto the roof.
17. Crew starts saws and conduct ventilation operations in accordance with Truck
Standards 2, 3, 4, 5.
Note: Per Cal/OSHA 29CFR1910: “2 in 2 out” must be established prior to any interior fire ground
operations whenever there is a possibility that an IDLH (Immediately Dangerous to Life and
Health) atmosphere exists.
