STANDARD:
Given a crew of 3 on 9953 and a crew of 2 on 9984, the crews will use the aerial to move a
patient from an elevated position using the pick off ropes, stokes basket, and tag line.

PROCEDURE:
1. Captain and Engineer spot the truck for access to reach the objective. The truck will
be placed in such a way that the ladder will be in its strongest configuration given the
scenario (close to the objective, ladder at the shortest extension and steepest elevation
to achieve the rescue.)
2. Engineer ensures parking brake is set prior to leaving the cab.
3. Engineer places wheel chocks on left front tire.
4. Engineer places stabilizer plates, sets and pins stabilizers.
5. Captain, 9953 Firefighter don ladder belts.
6. 9953 Firefighter and Captain take the hardware bag, pick off ropes, bridle, and stokes
basket and tag line to the roof.
7. 9953 Firefighter and Captain move equipment to the roof.
8. 9984 Engineer dons ladder belt, ascends ladder, joins truck crew.
9. 9953 Firefighter and Captain and 9984 Engineer provide initial medical treatment.
10. 9953 Firefighter, Captain and 9984 Engineer secure patient to backboard, place patient
in stokes basket.
11. 9953 Firefighter, Captain, 9984 Engineer secure patient to stokes basket with
interior/exterior lashing.
12. 9953 Firefighter, Captain, 9984 Engineer move patient to the aerial platform.
13. 9953 Firefighter attaches bridle to stokes basket.
14. 9953 Firefighter attaches pick off ropes/prussiks to lifting eyes under the platform and
adjusts prussiks to appropriate length. 9953 Firefighter uses the “Mega Cuffs” to
secure slack pick off rope. 9953 Firefighter attaches pick off ropes to bridle.
15. 9984 Engineer attaches tag line to the foot of the stokes basket.
16. Captain safety checks rigging/hardware.
17. 9984 Engineer drops tag line to the 9984 firefighter on the ground.
18. If the parapet ladder was used to access the roof, 9953 firefighter removes it from the
brackets.
19. 9953 Firefighter, Captain, and 9984 Engineer remain on the roof to limit the load on
the aerial.
20. Captain communicates with 9953 Engineer to move patient to the ground with the
aerial.
21. 9984 Firefighter maintains control of the stokes basket until it is on the ground.
22. 9984 Firefighter disconnects pick off ropes from the lifting eyes.
23. 9953 Engineer places aerial at the roof so the crew on the roof can descend.
24. 9953 Engineer and 9984 Firefighter untie interior/exterior lashing, place patient on the
backboard onto the gurney.
