SUBJECT: RADIO DISPATCHING OF PRIORITY CALLS
PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Effectively and efficiently dispatch calls for service with a priority 2 or 1 over
the radio regardless of the location of the assigned officer(s). This is to ensure all units and supervisors
hear the call details and keep abreast of shift and officer activity. It also keeps the audio recording
professional for court or other copy requests.
PROCEDURE:
I. DISPATCH RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Utilize Radio-to-PA or Alert Tones, if applicable.*
B. Dispatch priority calls for service via the radio.
C. Utilize Channel Marker, if applicable.
D. Status unavailable officers appropriately, i.e. “EVID” is not usually available for
dispatch, where “RWO” would be unless approved by shift supervisor.
II. OFFICER RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Officers will ensure their portable radio is on when not in their vehicles or while at the
station.
B. Officers will advise dispatch of the appropriate Out of Service code for their needs.
C. Officers who need to be unavailable for dispatch due to evidence, reports or other reason
will request permission from the sergeant to be out of service.
III. SERGEANT RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Advise dispatch that an officer has permission to be unavailable due to reports, evidence
or other reasons.
*APPLICABLE EVENT TYPES FOR ALERT TONES / RADIO-TO-PA:
1179: Accident Ambulance Enroute All
207: Kidnapping In progress or just occurred, where a large response to the
area could cause the safe return of the child or
apprehension of the suspect
211: Robbery In progress or just occurred (within 10 min), or a good
vehicle or suspect description
215: Carjacking In progress or just occurred (within 10 min), enough
information that a 666 could be initiated quickly
245 / 245JO: Assault Deadly Weapon In progress or just occurred (within 10 min)
261: Rape In progress or just occurred (within 10 min), enough
information that a 666 could be initiated quickly
415F: Fight Large crowd (approx. 10 or more subjects)
417: Display of Weapon In progress
5150V: Violent Mentally Ill In progress, subject actively causing harm to another
ACTVSHTR: Active Shooter All
C1000: Plane Crash All
HAZ / HAZMAT: Hazardous Materials All
LCHILD: Lost Child In progress, age 7 or younger or mental deficiencies
MA: Mutual Aid Case-by-case basis, law only
MED: Medical Aid Discretionary, when greater response is needed
STRU / STRUW: Structure Fires All
SUBWGUN / SUBJWGUN: Subject
