1961/11/27 Other Minutes Pc F . ► ROHNERT PARK RECREATION COMMISSION • Minutes for November 27, 1961, Meeting: On November 27, 1961, at 8:00 p.m. , the Rohnert Park Recreation Commission met at 6950 Commerce Boulevard, Cotati, California, for their regular bi- monthly public meeting. Commissioners present were: Jim Harrigan, Norman Francisco, Dewayne Strawther, Donald Davis, Elizabeth Cochran, and Nancy Thiesfeld. Also present were George Endress, Resident Representative, Mr. Boyd Bice, Chairman of the "Welcome to Sonoma State College", and Mr. R. W. Shollenberger, Petaluma Park and Recreation Department. Minutes of November 13, 1961, were read and approved with the following addition under Old Business : "Mr. Bice turned over his key to the District Office to Mrs. Cochran, Acting Chairman. Outgoing and Incoming correspondence were read and approved. Outstanding Bills were presented for approval of payment. Resume of last District Meeting pertaining to recreation was not given. Treasurer's Report was given. Under Old Business: Election of Chairman was held. Norman Francisco nominated Jim Harrigan. Vote was unanimous for Mr. Harrigan. Term of Chairman will be 1 year S according to the Recreation Ordnance. Mrs. Thiesfeld madda motion that the Commission request approval from the District to increase the Recreation Commission to 7 members and accept Mr. Endress and Mr. Swanson as the additional 2 members. Motion was 2nded by Dewayne Strawther. terms of Office were discussed to advise the new members. Terms of office areas follows: 3 year terms - Jim Harrigan, Dewayne Strawther, Don Davis. 2 year terms - Elizabeth Cochran and Nancy Thiesfeld. The afore mentioned terms are affective from February 7, 1961. The two new positions on the Commission will be 2 years and 3 years. Mr. Endress and Mr. Swanson will draw for these terms at the next meeting. These terms will be affective December 4, 1961, subject to approval of the District Board on that date. Chain Link Fence at the Alicia Park Swimming Pool was discussed. Mrs. Thiesfeld advised the fencing was installed. The Commission reauested Mr. Callinan to handle payment of the fencing. Development of Alicia Park was discussed. A motion was made by Mr. Strawther to contact Mr. Carpenter, District Engineer, for a tentative report on the grade project Lon for the remainder of Alicia Park. Motion 2nded by Nancy Thiesfeld. The Secretary was instructed to contact Mr. Carpenter. Welcome to Sonoma State College was reported on by Mr. Bice. He stated the tentative date was December 17th and a meeting of the 32 groups of Rohnert Park, Penngrove and Cotati, would be December 5 or 6. The Recrea- 41/ tion Commission will serve light refreshments at this meeting. Swimming Pool Report was given by Mrs. Cochran. Copies of final report were presented to the Commission. - (_`seas.e..d.- 110 Page 2 Minutes for November 27, 1961 Discussion of the Community Building was held. Mrs. Cochran reported a complaint of the College View Boys Club that there were no adequate facilities in the area for their boxing program. Mrs. Cochran stated she advised them of the Commission's plans for a community recreation building in the near future. Mr. Shollenberger of the Petaluma Park and Recreation Department was pre- sent and gave helpful information to the Commission in their consideration of the plan for the Community building. Mrs. Thiesfeld gave a report of her contacts with the Santa Rosa Park and Recreation Department and the Petaluma Park and Recreation Department and of her evaluation of various recreation buildings she saw in the area. The Commission requested a tentative plan and perspective of the building to be presented at the next meeting, New Business: Was held over until the next meeting.
