1961/02/20 Other Minutes Minutes for February 20th, 1961, Meeting of Rohnert Park Recreation Commission S On February 20th, 1961, at 7:30 pm the Rohnert Park Recreation Commission met at 6950 Commerce Boulevard, Cotati, for their regular bi-monthly public meeting. Members present were Dale Monroe, Elizabeth Cochran and Nancy Thiesfeld. Betty Sibelia, reporter, was present in the interest of the Rohnert Park Press. There was no representation of the general public in attendance. General discussion of the swimming pool rates set for recommendation by the Commission at the previous meeting was held. Elizabeth Cochran gave a resume of her investigation of the management of the Montgomery Village Pool in Santa Rosa. Discussion of the Montgomery Village Pool concession was held with hrs. William Ray, Monteverdi Street, Santa Rosa, Liberty 6-1637. The Montgomery Village Pool Concession stand is operated on a lease basis. Mrs. Ray indicated that she would be willing to work with the Commission showing how efficiently this method of handling the concession worked. The Commission will contact Mrs. Ray regarding the concessions and add any information she might have to the commission's investigation of handling the Rohnert Park Swimming Pool Concession. Elizabeth Cochran pointed out a practice used by the Montgomery Village Pool which was as follows: at the end of each hour the lifeguards clear the pool of all children and allow the adults to swim for 10 minutes. It was felt that this practice had these good affects: 1. it allows the - adults a free period toswim without having to watch their own children 2. it encourages the adults to come to the pool 3. it gives the children a rest period. The above practice met w=th the Commission's favor and it was felt that the practice should be considered for trial at the Rohnert ?ark Pool. Mi.s. Cochran also pointed out that the Montgomery Village Pool operates on memberships only. The Commission decided to present the following recommeddations to the Rohnert Park Community Services District at their February 21, 1961, meeting: 1. Setting of pool rates at recommended by the Commission 2. Further study by the Commission regarding handling of the Pool Concession Dale Monroe reported regarding his study on the fill needed for the "A" neighborhood park site. Mr. Monroe stated that he located a source for the fill, however, a further study is needed regardng the precise locations for depositing the fill. Mr. Monroe stated he would make the necessary arrangements for having a topigraphical survey made of the park site. It was suggested that Charlie Marshall, the District Engineer, be consulted. The Commission agreed to have the 20-30 Club of Rohnert Park contacted and asked to take on the proposed picnic area of the park for a club project. 411/ Nr. Monroe will con+.act the 20-30 club. The Commission next discussed the problem of obtaining trees for planting in the neighborhood "A" park site. Mr. Monroe stated he would contact the State Di vi sii on of forestry and see what they had to offer. Minutes for 2-20-61 1111 -2- The parking area infront of the swimming pool was next discussed w th reference to paving of the area. Suggestion was made to contact Siri Construction and see if they would consider doing the job, Mr. Monroe stated he would contact Siri. The desire of meeting with Mr. W. Ray Miller, Superintendent of the Cotati Elementary School District was expressed by the Commission. The Commission feels that it would be advantageous for the park and school to co-ordinate their ideas expecially due to their side by side existance. Nancy hh-esfeld stated she would make arrangements for Mr. Miller to attend the next Commission meet ng. The next meeting of the Commission which is to be March 6th, will be set for a date nearest to +`-arch 6th and convenient for Mr. Miller. Members will be notified by the secretary as to the meeting date. Replacement for Commission member Thomas Gillons was discused. No names for a new member were offered and further attempt to obtain a new member, subject to approval by the Rohnert t'ark Community Services District, will be made by the Commission. The Commission agreed to present the rough sketch plan of the neighborhood "A" park site as prepared by the Sonoma County Planning Commission to the Rohnert Park Community ;services District at their February 21, 1961, meeting, not for approval, but to merely show the District the progress of the Commission. Since the next meeting of the Rohnert ?ark Recreation Commission is to be an informal discussion with Mr. tiller, no agenda was compiled and the meeting was adjourned.
